Hey Qantas, why is it that ....?

Which why the question has been asked about why mobile check works for an exit row but not the kiosk. They don't check you when using mobile check in.

I don't think this is true.

If you check-in using mobile, you then have to obtain the BP from the FA at the gate (they scan either your phone or card and hand you the BP). On quite a few occasions, I've been "reminded" that I'm sat in an Exit Row ... I'm sure they're checking me out in the process - TBH I'm far too old for them to be checking me out for any other reason!!

BD

A few posts back I mentioned that it was previously possible to successfully complete the checkin process via Mobile checkin when seated in an exit row so I believe Medhead is correct there.

I believe that a system upgrade to a newer version of Altea has had an adverse affect on this resulting in exit row pax still being checked in via mobile but being placed on the 'ineligible to board list' which results in a beep at the gate & being referred to the gate agent to rectify.

Everyone in an exit row gets that reminder at the gate regardless of check in method. That is not the check that is required. When checking it there is a flag in the computer system that requires a check in agent/lounge staff to tick. That's why exit rows require people to see a real person when checking in. Apparently this doesn't apply to mobile check in.

Not if they use a SSK at the airport as there is a screen that asks the pax if they meet the exit row criteria & as long as you press 'yes' it will print out your boatding pass so no further action is required at the boarding gate.

You cannot print out a boarding pass at a SSK if you have already attempted to checkin OLCI/Mobile/Qcard reader.

The flag only happens for pax if they have used OLCI/Mobile/Qcard reader for checkin in an exit row.

Using a SSK or checking in with a CSA behind a checkin counter will verify you as being suitable for the exit row so no further action is required at the gate.

Hey Qantas, why is it that....

Not only are the taxes/fees/carrier surcharges ridiculously expensive on award redemptions, but MEL-LHR in PE has more than double the taxes/fees/carrier surcharges than one way in PE ?
Because of UK's ADP ?

Hey Qantas, why is it that….
An interesting thread…
When I receive my new Gold or Platinum status card each year (for over a decade now) and I’m told I have complimentary Qantas Club membership until my status changes, why am I not recognised as a Lifetime Qantas Club member since the early 1990s and, therefore, not receiving any additional benefit at all? I’d be quite happy with a simple acknowledgement of my loyalty. The same applies to my wife.

I wasn't querying the ability to use Mobile Check-In when allocated an Exit Row seat, I know you *can* check-in by mobile in this instance - see Post #1 on this Thread.

The vast majority of my dom travel is in Y Exit Rows. Because of the restriction of being able to Check-In at a kiosk or online, the vast majority of my Check-In is done via the mobile - including my 2 legs this week. At no time, when presenting my card or phone has the GA had to do anything other than hand me back my phone/card and the BP slip ... except last night when I was also asked how I was "finding the new card" (QCash/QFF Combined card).

I was more referring to the FA reminder when scanning your BP that you're in an exit row rather than the beep at gate check. I've had that reminder consistently regardless of check in method. Sure the FA at the is probably checking your eligible but it is not the eligibility list thing that is the issue with the various check in methods.

Now that makes more sense .... doesn't apply to mobile, no-one ticks .... HOWEVER, if everyone gets the greeting, wouldn't it be bleedingly obvious that a minor or a person on crutches was boarding into an Exit Row ... and therefore, although not "system enabled" wouldn't the GA at that point rectify the situation?

Hey Qantas, why is it that .... you don't put either the number of calories or kilojoules on your meal menu items?

I made this suggestion in the First Lounge a couple of years ago by the way. I was in Brumbys the other day and even they are doing it now. (that's why I didn't buy that massive cinnamon bun!)

Can you name me an airline that outside of promotions awards points and SC's on award tickets?

Although I agree with the sentiment, I feel that at the very least an award flight should count towards eligible sectors getting a ~ in the process

virgin gives SCs on award tickets.

How much of your flight travel is for work? I think that makes a big difference. Leisure travel is more conveniently timed than early morning/later evening business travel.

And LCC's don't guarantee your flight, something that is critical for business trips.

All of my travel is self funded leisure travel. That said, I'm glad I have the choice on VA domestic not to pay for food I won't be eating because of my food preferences.

The pieces of cardboard have never been dispensed from SSKs - only the flimsy pieces of paper. I would think it comes down to economics plus a big roll of paper can probably issue more boarding passes & baggsge receipts than a box of boarding passes.

I'm sure the staff at the boarding gate could reprint a cardboard boarding pass for you for nostalgic purposes.

When they first came out they did. The ones in CBR certainly did for a while. I do get them printed when I get into the lounge now.

Why is it on the 1635 SYD - OOL flight I'm offered a Heineken, James squire for $6 only to be then given the choice of a Carlton Mid, xx_X Gold and for $6. Yet I fly SYD - BNE, it's a better choice and free..... Talk about inconsistency especially when the City Flyer product has died a slow death!!!!!!! Please explain QF!!!!!

Aside= I was surprised to hear the word citiflyer on my flight last night. Thought it was defunct

I thought I was the only one getting the QP to print them out for me :)

Also yes, CBR certainly gave out the cardboard, and I see to remember that MEL did as well.

...people expect to be fed on pretty much ANY flight leg within Australia?

/rant on
I don't understand the fascination with (let alone the constant whining about) airline food. I know I'm generalising, but bear with me....on a normal work day, when people aren't flying anywhere, they'lll eat breakfast around 7.30, lunch around 1, and dinner at say 6.30. In between they might have the odd glass of water, cookie, mars bar, can of V etc.

So why, when they're on a 2 hour plane flight from say MEL-BNE, do they expect food? And if they simply can't go 2 hours without jamming something in their gobs, why does the airline have to provide this? Airports are chock full of places to buy drinks, snacks and whatever portable food you could possibly imagine. If you have to eat while in the air, can't you just think ahead? Why does the airline have to find out if you need lacto-ovo, vegan, gluten-free or diabetic friendly meals?

I vote we clear the (domestic) aisles of those pesky catering carts, and put an end to people complaining bitterly about getting a cold piece of cake as opposed to a steaming hot pile of chicken & rice. Imagine the savings in catering and cleanup costs....that I'm certain our beloved carriers would pass on to our ticket prices, no?
/rant off

Why should I race around like a mad thing at the airport prior to flying, eating my dinner as if savage wolfs are about to take it off me to then board a plane and sit around and do nothing for an hour.

LCC's where invented for people just like you, who want the choice, as for me well my objection is that it's something they used to offer on the MEL to CBR flights, and they still offer on the MEL to SYD flights which are often slighly cheaper then the CBR flights, so "price" doesn't come into it.
