Contrary to the most informative posters mrs pyffii and i travel exclusively on the upper deck long haul and have never found any issue with the floor shaking...it is peaceful and quiet and we usually get row 16 by request...we sleep soundly especially from LAX to SYD...would never consider down stairs....Understand we are all different so its a judgement call...go for upstairs you will enjoy the experience

No I'm pretty sure it's a mistake. It doesn't John Smith Mr - that would be fine, it says Johnmr Smith. I'll call them tomorrow and find out.

That is quite normal in TA bookings. I get the same thing myself when the corporate agent books tickets for me.

If concerned, just give the airline a call and get them to just verify it, but I am almost certain that it will be ok

And it will correctly show on your boarding pass as:

SMITH/JOHN MR

Its quite normal and common. In fact this is the exact format as printed on my son's board pass this morning.

Ah I see. Thanks to you both for clarifying.

And pyffii - I'll try and get 16 for sure!

Does anybody know about the points and SCs? If I earn at full-rate despite the I booking I'll be QFPS by the time I get back, it'd be nice to have that, even if it only lasts a year!

I class earns at Business Class rates for points and SCs on all eligible flights.

I have had CX do it backwards and it never caused an issue with Checking in, immigration or point posting to QFF.

Ie I am Mr John Doe. They put my Christian name in the family name field and Vice-versa. So the ticket was Mr Doe John.

Thanks for the tip on the floor vibrations - couldn't see that on seatguru. Are they that noticable? I only ask because travelling J these days is very rare for me and I'd like to fly on the upper deck just to say I've done it.
What vibrations? I have had 5 long haul op-ups on QF in business class and 4 of them I have been allocated seats on the upper deck. If I had a choice I would be on the upper deck every time.

And I would not worry about the MR following your name. The boarding pass will print SMITH/JOHN MR....

The vibrations caused by people walking up and down the cabin. The only time to take upper deck imo is if it is row 16, otherwise downstairs every time for no vibrations and decent sized overhead luggage lockers plus a decent chance of an empty seat adjacent in the middle block

There are no virations caused by people walking up and down the cabin and my hearing is very good. Just like the myth about sitting in exit rows with fluoro socks. They are both a huge YMMV....

Just because you do not notice it does NOT mean that they do not exist

Occasionally I hear voices that no one else can hear. Is this what you mean?

The 767 rattles, shakes, vibrates and everything than an interior of an aircraft should not do. On the other hand the upper deck on a 747 is just about the best flying experience one can have, have not tried the A380 yet, and it is very quiet, much quieter than lower deck, with no noticeable vibration of the floor and I would choose the upper deck every time.

Everyone is entitled to this experience to be able to form their own opinion because it is quite clear that you and I have had totally different experiences on the upper deck of the 747....

Dave
Yeah exactly.

But I have noticed vibrations from people walking on the main deck of 737s, 767s and 747s. So I can't imagine that being on the upper deck would be that much different.

The upper deck floor bounce is more pronounced than the lower one

Dunno about any myth with fluoro socks - I use white socks and it works very well; and that aint no myth!

I have only flown lower deck J on QF but on other airlines 744's like JL i will say you notice the bounce/vibration more, does this worry me, not really i never sleep that well and often sleep best when it is a little turbulent ride, i know thats strange but i guess its like rocking a baby to sleep

No idea about the socks never choose an exit row for a long or night flight.

Whatever works for you is fine but not everyone goes through life getting their feet bumped sitting in exit rows so the thought of fluoro socks, or even white socks, sounds silly to some people. One fact is that my shoulders and arms will get bumped multiple times while I am sitting in an aisle seat.

I am not a business class flyer but I have had a number of op-ups. Most people I know prefer the upper deck and I am glad I was given the opportunity to sit in the upper deck, front seats, exit row and behind exit row. The cabin is very quiet, the toilet in the front of the cabin does not get used very often, there are no creaks in the flloor, there are no unusual vibrations and it is a nice experience. Telling people to avoid the upper deck because of personal preference is totally wrong and let other people experience the upper deck for themselves so they can form their own opinion.

Hmmm, maybe you should wear a long sleeved Flouro Top! :p

Since white socks work for me, I would not call it a myth!

The white socks and not getting kicked in the legs could be purely a coincidence. There is insufficient evidence to prove your theory/myth....

I guess my experience of a dozen or so long haul international flights in 747/388 aisle exit row seats with white socks compared to a similar number prior to that without said sock and assessing the results does not count as evidence to you. As far as I am concerned it is no longer a theory, it is a fact - and certainly not a myth. I will continue to argue this and provide such advice to forum viewers as I see fit.

I still reckon you should wear a long sleeved Flouro Top next time and report on the results ... ;)

Fluoro tops just wouldn't suit me. ;) From my observation cabin crew only ever slow down or stop if someone is physically blocking their path.
