I have just moved to Western Australia from England, I flew Qantas and have achieved 65 Qantas status credits. I would like to achieve 350 0r 700 Qantas Status credit. I have spent some time reading different post on this forum, but most seem to be pretty old, so was hoping someone could give me the best way to achieve my goal. As I have a new job taking large amounts of time of is difficult, the max amount of time I can get off is 3 days in a row. I have 3 days off at the end of June and 4 day off for the long weekend in September.

up up and hopefully on the way to a higher cloud

Welcome to AFF.

How much money are you willing to spend? That amount of SCs is not going to be cheap.

Why do you need status? Do you fly a lot for work? Perhaps your money would be best invested in Qantas Club membership.

Do you have status already with BA? If you do. QF will recognize it and give you privileges at the level qualified. If you are here permanently, you could ask QF to status match. Worst they can say is "No"

Welcome to AFF.

When does your year end?

I'm an advocate of obtaining status as cheap as possible using the cheap economy fares. So with a current qantas sale in Oct-Dec, there might a be few opportunities available there if it is within your current member year.

I will fully admit that obtaining status by cheap fares is slow and while it might save some cash, it does waste time. So if I was looking for status I'd do a route that can earn me 25 SC at about $4 to $5 per SC. But to get 350 SC you need to fly 14 times.

Anyway, I'm sure others here might suggest useful business routes that will earn the status quicker.

Also how many points to you have. A business any seat award might be possbile from Perth if you have the points to spend.

What are you looking for in status? if it is for quick check in, additional baggage allowance and lounge access domestically, you may find that just buying Qantas Club membership which will provide this facility without too much expense and no time wasted

QC membership would be better than Silver membership for travel on Qantas ; where you would lose out is if you plan to be doing lots of travel on carriers other than Qantas.

Thanks. As a fellow newbie, I found this post useful. Is this basic info kept somewhere? Like the OP, I've been trawling lots of older posts and wondering if the info is still accurate.

Cheers

I can second Dave's comment. If you have access to a Corp rate on Qantas Club it is well worth it. And if you travel at least every 2 months it is well worth it IMHO. After I bought access I said I would never go back unless my travel dropped off (in fact it has gone up so i don't have to worry)

Would concur with the opinion that a QC membership is probably your best bet. Lounge access is far better than being able to check in an extra few kilos (Silver), and if you make Gold, your QC membership gets put on hold until you drop down to Silver again anyhow. QC gives you better seats, the baggage allowances, lounge, priority check etc at usually much less effort than flying around... and from your first flight, not once you've achieved the status!

The only real benefit PS has over QP is advanced seat selection.

It would be a nice benefit of QP but I don't see it happening

At that level the seat selection isn't going to be a major benefit either. Generally as a bronze QP member I was offerred much better seats at check in then I was able to advance select as a silver qp member.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That is true, but it is still a nice benefit to have if you are willing to start trying to find other seats that open up at T-80
