Hi all,

We will be travelling to the US next month and I am trying to organise some west coast travel. The plan is:

12 Feb LAX-SFO
14 Feb SFO-(LAX)-LAS
16 Feb LAS-LAX

I would like to book the LAX-SFO-LAX as an instant upgrade fare and LAX-LAS-LAX as an economy fare. I can't seem to do it in the one booking so I thought that I could do two separate bookings only that I am worried about the flights on the 14 Feb being on two separate bookings.

The SFO-LAX arrives 1535 and the LAX-LAS departs 1635. Would this be enough time to claim luggage and recheck? AA.com says to check baggage in at least 45 mins prior and this is the last flight that day so don't want to risk it . After I have made the two separate bookings can I then ring up and combine them? Or when I check in can I get the baggage checked through even though it is two separate bookings?

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to check your luggage through SFO-xLAX-LAS at SFO irrespective of separate bookings.

Thanks for the quick reply but don't mention the MR (missus wouldn't agree if she knew). But for LAX-SFO for $415.80 for the two of us and 60SC each who can complain!

So I am guess that there isn't a way to book an instant upgrade fare and an economy as a connecting flight on the one booking?

EDIT: Am I seeing things or did you just change your post???

No way of doing it online that I know of. A decent TA should be able to do it though.

They will not, I think, be able to sell that as a single ticket since you would be passing back through the origin.

Given that if there are any problems at the connection in LAX, AA can wipe their hands of it, I personally would not do that as 2 separate bookings.

I would be booking something like
LAX-SFO
SFO-LAS ( via LAX ) and
LAS-LAX

Taking examples of cheapest fares in AUD excluding tax
LAX-SFO-LAX in 1st is $346 and LAX-LAS-LAX in coach is $129 .. total $475

LAX-SFO in coach is $55
SFO-LAX-LAS in 1st is $428
LAS-LAX in coach is $81 ... total $564

An extra $89 will avoid the risks otherwise I would be inclined to put a longer connection time in at LAX
