Thank you Jessica, a lot of your posts has answered a lot of my questions and i'm still trying to read through a lot of really great material. Today's task is understanding AAdvantage and getting caught up on what kind of promotions are available for each of the ff programs. So much to learn!!

Welcome espiritu360, looks like you are off to a good start. Small steps and there can be large results.

Enjoy.

If you can qualify for the Citi Executive card in the US you get your socks knocked off with the 100,000 AA miles bonus after $10,000US spend, Admirals Club and high status at $40,000US. Look at One Mile At A Time to see if it is there or maybe Frugal Travel Guy if you have a Social Security Number issued by the US.
I paid some Australian creditors and the exchange rate was .9027 so if I transfer money at .9050 the cost is below zero.

That sounds ridiculous.. i'll look into it. I haven't travelled to the US in a long time; will look into if the trouble is worth the bonus. Do you set up an account in the US and pay the credit card by transfer AUD over? Do you need a residential address?

edit: sorry, i have too many questions. Still trying to understand which programs i should be getting familiar with. Asked kpf about avianca miles and it seems not bad. It seems i need to stop collecting QFFP and start banking my points with a credit card. The more i look into each program, the more i realize how little i know. But the citibank select is done, wondering if i need westpac altitude black or not, or keep the woolworths qantas for ATO.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think if you read "Establishing A Credit Rating In America" AFF blog which is behind "Frequent Flyer Fiend And The Game" you will get some ideas.
We have a US address and a US Bank account plus Social Security cards.
Transferring funds to the US is easy but it may cost a few dollars.

Definitely try to get to AFF drinks. Have done that in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and London.

Light-weight! :D

(MEL, ADL, PER, BNE, SYD, HBA, LHR, SIN)
Bantamweight! - I have had drinks/discussions with AFFers in MEL, ADL, PER, SYD, OOL, DRW, CBR, BNE, CNS, VIE, PRG, HKG, NRT, HND, SIN, EWR, BOS, JFK, LAX, SFO, DFW, ... and likely a few more that will come to mind soon enough ... I guess it's the nature of the beast if you are around long enough. :D (May my Liver forgive me) :p

Light weight....maybe not. I gave a coughroach a 120 kg test and it looked a bit flat!
Yes Jessica you are really out there that's for sure. I was so pleased you came to Perth and I was expecting a Chinese lady.
You make us feel we are all standing still.
I stayed in Perth just to run up frequent flyer points or to work....sometimes I do both.
Drinks nights can produce great ideas on how, when and where.

Serfty you are a real heavyweight when it comes to drinks nights around the world.
We are getting a Ruth's Chris steakhouse down the street in Marina del Rey so we might try that one next time our paths cross in Los Angeles.
Have turned my attention to AA miles last month and my plan is really a standout this month.
Is it almost drinks time?

Don't go anywhere in April; you know the dates, Serfty is to flying as Cove is to credit card schemes.:p:D:idea:

I think I have done that with you in all these places bar Perth.

Talking about LA, are you in LA on Mon 12th May? We have a 7 hr transit at Lax from mid pm to late pm en route from Sju to Syd and would love to try the steakhouse:)

I stumbled on the forum yesterday whilst looking for a new credit card, and it is like a treasure chest in here. I had no idea about ASAs and have been just using the classic award to book all my flights.

I'm still trying to understand all the jargon but i'm very excited. Nice to meet you all and i'm sure i will learn a lot from this magical place :D

ps. just a question about JASA, i need to go on website to book a dummy flight (using classic award?) and find out if the fare bucket is the right type in order to book a JASA? I'm still very new to all of this so please forgive the stupid questions.

Nice to meet you all!!

Welcome aboard. This forum is indeed a treasure chest with countless nuggets... I am not a veteran here, but have been around for a bit and I still learn new things on almost daily basis. Enjoy the steep learning curve you are about to start and I look forward to reading the nuggets you will hopefully be sharing back with the community.

Cheers.

kpc I have one of my partners away for all of May so I have my wings clipped I think. Now we do have an active AFFer in Marina del Rey/Venice in California who has located himself very close to our local Costco and the marina. It will be a a choice of Flemings with their 20% off gift cards!, Morton's,Houston's and of course Ruth's Chris which will be new.
My spelling of those steak places may be a slightly incorrect but with it being a bit early in the morning I will have another shot at sleeping. I did think you might try all of them but with 7 hours you might need medical advice on gluttony.

I was in a COSTCO near Benicia, Ca (San Francisco) last Sunday and was amazed at the rows of gift cards available (for both local and national establishments), 10%, 20%, 33% discounts and more.

One thing that struck me was a purchase card wouldn't fit very well in the average wallet (or even a purse/handbag). :p
