Heads up about program changes

Me thinks nothing will change with DSC. Other than the very obvious - they want your money, not your points!

Don't know about that. They can manipulate the value of points much more easily than the value of money.

So - suck it up and requalify for 2015, hang on to the dream for another 12 months, possibly drop to Gold in 2016 and then just chase the best deal of the day? I haven't looked into AAdvantage yet, but I see the old hands here beating a path to that door
You're pretty close to requalifying so that sounds like the best option to me. Even if you do no or minimal travel with Qantas or OneWorld that year, you'll soft land to Gold the year after that (assuming soft landings aren't enhanced away), giving you the flexibility to explore other non-OW airlines while still enjoying OW Sapphire perks for those times you do travel on a OW carrier.

Though, if most of your travel is in Business anyway, how much extra do you get from your Sapphire status?

So much whining on this thread, it breaks my heart... How many times before people threatened to ditch QF and how many really end up doing it? Their planes should have all been empty by now... See you all on the next QF flight ;)

I did over a year ago - haven't stepped on QF metal since. Not even booked on a codeshare. Not out of spite, but out of pragmatism. Began thinking about it when they removed the major difference from other programs (ANA), finally did it when the last major round of "enhancements" hit last year. Next step is to get VA lounge access through Etihad status, and then will have even less reason to step on a QF plane when I am back in Oz. However, I concede that is easier to do when one spends more than half the year's flying outside of Australia. Apparently they don't miss me :)

So true! Some comments are very good constructive criticisms & good analysis , but some comments are somewhat unfair on QFF .

No doubt the conversation on this topic will be going full swing for quite a while yet I suspect, which makes for good reading.

I think their domestic arm is profitable, thanks to ~80% share of the corporate market.
Qantas Domestic reported Underlying EBIT1 of $57 million, down from $218 million in 1H13.

Qantas International reported an Underlying EBIT loss of $262 million, compared with a loss of $91 million in 1H13.

The Jetstar Group reported an Underlying EBIT loss of $16 million, down from an Underlying EBIT profit of $128 million in 1H13.

Qantas Loyalty reported Underlying EBIT of $146 million, a record result , up from Underlying EBIT of $137 million in 1H13. The business continues to perform very strongly, with billings up 9 per cent in the half, three million awards redeemed and record customer advocacy. There are currently 9.8 million Qantas Frequent Flyer members , with a target of 10 million for the full year.

Clearly you'd pick the part of the business with the record result to screw with, especially when it has such a big impact on the former.

Perhaps they just want to bring QFF back down in line with the other poor results to stave off those investors.

I feel most sorry for the ma&pa shareholders.

wow 98 pages of comments!!!!

without reading all again, if I take some jasa's between now and 1 July 2014 I still get points as per usual ?

im currently plat, and re qualify 30 Apr 2014

so am I correct that between 1may and 1july I will still be earning status at the same earn rate (to keep me plat for one more year ?

Looks to me like they've taken down the new points calculator. The link on the information page "introducing a simpler, fairer flying program" now takes me to the old caculator.

I don't think an algorithm has yet been discovered that would power the calculator Qantas needs for its new earnings.
