Yes it is work, so cities pretty much locked in for meetings

Have not looked at DONE5, what is the cost versus a DONE4?

OTOH if you have a free weekend (or a couple of days), purchasing separate tickets for AUS-DFW-MEM-DFW (even in Y) would free up the segments to purchase longer segments which earn more SC and points.

Re: DONE5 - SCL-SYD is notorious for not having L/D class available. But check if you would like to stop in South America on the way back.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Air Asia (basic or enhanced) is the cheapest way out of Australia that I would fly. 3K or JQ if you really want the SCs for QF.
CX PEY fares (or V class if you wish to "slum" it) vary (immensely) by location in SEAsia. KUL is not the cheapest but far from the most expensive and is easier to get to than some. (Try CMB or SGN as alternatives) The combination (unless you can work an award ticket) are likely to be the least expensive one way to JNB. Which is one of the least expensive starting points for an xONEx.

Now if the reimbursement will only work for exAustralia... then you are left with the 12K-14K ticket. Self financed tickets really do need to look elsewhere. Acknowledged that the fall of the AUD has changed the dynamics of the starting elsewhere finances.

Look at the OW threads on flyertalk.com.

It was the 'PEY' that had me stumped, but now realise it is Premium Ec.

bit of a brain fart...
HKG-BNE, HKG-SYD, HKG-MEL, SIN-BNE, SIN-SYD and SIN-MEL now all get the same points and SC right?

Ex South Africa ...

DONE4 AUD6,325

DONE5 AUD7,285

DONE6 AUD8,640

(from Expert Flyer)

a quick exercise in pricing I just did on the Oneworld site:

JNB-LHR-JFK-SYD-JNB = approx $AU8200
JNB-LHR-JFK-HKG-SYD-JNB = approx $AU9k

take out the LHR and I think your total will go down a fair bit due APD nasties.
