Stephanie Tully, CMO of Qantas Loyalty, wrote a brief article on "Qantas' 4 step recipe for customer loyalty success" for MAD Week, an upcoming marketing conference. Nothing terribly revelatory in there, but for those interested in reading it in light of the recent enhancements, I've uploaded it here to save people the hassle from registering with the MAD Week mailing list and downloading it themselves.

"1. Integrate Customer Feedback"

Maybe QFF do this, but it would have been at least lip service if they sought feedback on the latest changes BEFORE they made them...

I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum, but for the sake of clarity could someone please confirm whether we continue to earn status credits & ff points for MASAs booked before 30 June 2014 for travel after 30 June 2014 in the "U" fare bucket?

I'm looking at a business class flight SYD-MEL-ADL return specifically. Flicked through a number of pages but there are a LOT here!

Thanks in advance.

MASA will continue to earn. The rate will depend on when booked - prior to the March announcement date, it would be at the old (current) rate, regardless of when flown.

Booked after that date, then earn according to applicable rules (current rate until 30 June, new rate after).

After 30 June, you will not be able to book any new MASA.

As a classic burner of many years standing - QFi is not the driver. The OW alliance is the carrot that supplements the stick...it allows QFF to manipulate the programme to suit their interests.

IMO QFF would continue to flourish without QFi......not so without OW.

Degrading OW earning & SC is really dumb. As a virtual airline QFi flis to so few destinations (IMHO EK codeshare do not count). Wihtout the OW network QF is not an option for me. Loss of earning means looking at other ailrines and FF programes for all future travel.

Friends

I may have overlooked some of the posts so if it had been covered, my apologies.

My Q was related to the SC earning on partner airlines on booking made before the recent changes in March i.e. whether they would earn at the old or the new simplified rate.

I did raise it here a few times but to the best of my recall, I seem unable to see any response from Red Roo.

So I did send off an email to QFF

Q: "... Dear QFF

With the recent changes to the QFF scheme in relation to partner airlines SC earnings, I wish to seek a written reply to the following question:

Would there be any exemption to the SC earning downgrade on partner airlines to confirmed bookings made before 26th March 2014 ?...."

and here is the reply:

".... Dear Member [name],

Thank you for contacting The Qantas Club and Frequent Flyer Service Centre.

The changes announced to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program are effective for travel from 1 July 2014. If you already have flights booked and ticketed prior to Saturday 29 March 2014, for travel on or after 1 July 2014, you will earn the Qantas Points and Status credits as per the current program conditions that applied at the time you made your booking.

As long as your membership number appears in these bookings, the applicable points and Status credits will be allocated to your account within four weeks of your travel. However, please ensure that you retain your paper or e-ticket, which will indicate that the booking was made prior to 29 March 2014, and the boarding passes, until all eligible points and Status credits appear in your account.

It certainly is a fair response as there is no retrograde penalty with existing bookings on partner airlines.

Leg room.Thanks for this post.
I too have been concerned about the Qantas policy re bookings made before March 26th on a partner airline.
We have also booked and paid for tickets on a partner airline in December 2013, and have been concerned about what would happen re our Qantas SCs.
This looks reassuring and adds some credibility to Qantas, as there have been many members concerned about this.

The FAQ about the changes clearly states that existing bookings would earn at the old rate. The only question has been the cut off date.

Can someone point me to a page or calculator which shows how many QF points (not status credits) I might earn on partner airlines after 1 July, should I choose to continue crediting to QFF? The only updated calculator I can find appears to only show devalued earning on QF and JQ.

I don't think this is ready yet.

Medhead, I moaned to QFF, and I got the impression, that my only first trip earns at the old rate, ie, I have booking CHC to SYD to ADL in one of the economy classes that earns a bit of QF points and SC, but after that one trip... 17 Jul 14, will be my happy time. So it looks like, cut off is end of the month of Jul 2014.
All my bookings for the next 7 months from Aug 2014 till Jan 2015, made in early 2014 (before we knew of the changes), will be at the lower rates.
I was going to make PS, even if its just plebian, at least its something. But alas, its now harder to get even that!

AFAIK, Qantas have not yet published Point earn rates for partner airline travel after June 30th.

SC earn has been published: Frequent Flyer - Fairer Flying

But on that page, note the following:
The way you earn Qantas Points on partner airline flights will transition to the same regional framework as the table above. Please ensure Your Profile is up to date so that we can keep you informed of these changes.

Now, here's a though, if us all, every single one of the members of QFF in AFF, wrote a petition to QFF, realistically, I don't think they care, but, if the few thousands of us wrote in a petition, in my dreamy world, QFF might take notice.
If the (major) other airline company in Australia was sweeter, I would dump QFF, but the other one, is not all that much different, SC wise, Au to Nz, for eg.

Aren't partner earning rates published in the "simpler" table?

Any booking made before 29 March should earn at the old rates. There may be some difference for partner airline flights, can't rule that out, but I think it is unlikely. Pre-existing bookings should earn at the old rates regardless of when flown.

In your case if that wasn't the case then the flight in July would also earn the new rates.

Btw the closer QF moves towards being the same as VA the more incentive to fly VA, IMO. I think moving flights to VA will speak louder that a petition. Really QF is slowly hacking away the loyalty bindings that keeps us tied to them.

Hopefully, wait and see I guess.
One of my booking is on EK in J! My first one, hope to earn max points, so if you are right, whoopee, if not, well, so is life.
I used the QFi from PER - SIN and return, about 2 years ago, and loved it, esp the day flight from SIN to PER, got to PER at about 15.00, so enough time to get onto a flight from PER - ADL at 17.30 or, maybe earlier, but that was a great time.
I wrote (at that time, to QF), and they said thanks for the letter, lah lah, I thought, ooh, maybe they might keep it up.
Then they got rid of that flight I used, then now they stopped PER - SIN altogether, not to mention, stopped ADL - SIN direct in the mean time, anyway, I won't be surprised if in the end, something more drastic happens to QFF.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

forgive me if these points have been raised before... but a couple of thoughts came to mind as I was checking the new tables.

QF say this is now a fair system... which implies the previous system was UNfair.

to whom?

the only logical conclusion is that QF thinks it was unfair to itself.

otherwise, if it was only unfair to passengers, they could have remedied that by increasing points for higher fares, not decreasing them for lower fares.

if it is indeed unfair to passengers..l why has qantas allowed such a dire situation to persist for so long? why only change it now? surely if it was so unfair they should have changed it ages ago?

they say it's 'fairer' because it reflects the prices people are now paying on the lowest fares. but but but... they keep increasing the fuel surcharges... so that means they are covering their costs?

if they are not covering their costs... that begs the question of who is setting the strategy?

qantas really are not that good at 'spin'. they should get a professional if they want to go down that path.
