QF are running a 744 during some Jan flights to PVG according the Qantas Source:

QF129 Sydney - Shanghai and QF130 Shanghai - Sydney on 18th, 25th, 29th and 30th January 2011 will be operated with 4 Class Kangaroo configuration Boeing 747-400s. The downstairs Business Class section and Premium Economy section are available for Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyers travelling on Economy Class tickets whilst the First Class and upper deck Business Class cabins are available for Business Class passengers.

I am heading to PVG in Jan so this looks excellent.

Yep, it seems as though my PVG-SYD booking in mid-Jan is currently being serviced by a 747... My previous seat allocations seemingly still hold, except I can't get past an earlier flight (CX HKG-PVG) to confirm where those QF seats are located now.

Dunno if its worth me calling QF or not, as we're currently sat in F (using a Oneworld (J) reward ticket).

Have you used check my trip to bring up the seat map?

That's an excellent idea markis10. I've checked it, and it looks as though we're in F according to checkmytrip's seat guide (but have retained the exact seats that we had when the flight was on the A330):

On a different note though, (I suspect that) due to an aircraft change, the seats we've preselected for HKG-PVG no longer exist. I'm also unable to make the relative changes through the QF website (which is how I'd selected those seats originally).

Worth going through the trouble of calling QF, or just ask then when we begin our trip (its our second last flight out of 8 flights)?

I would ring, preselecting seats helps in the seat lottery, its not guaranteed but its often better than no preference.

Thanks mate. I've managed to select seats through the cathay pacific website, however these (apparently confirmed) seat preferences haven't flown through to checkmyseat or the Qantas website. I think I'll wait a day or two before giving them (Qantas) a call, if the seat choices aren't updated.

Interesting though that I'm able to select seats through the "manage my booking" section of the cathay website (by providing last name, first name and booking reference number), even though the tickets were a QF redemption!

Presumably you're ticketed on the CX code for that flight? If so, that makes perfect sense -- if CX is the marketing carrier for your flight, they are the ones taking care of seat allocations and meal requests etc.

Thanks notzac, if by "ticketed" you mean I'm on a CX### flight number then you're right, I am! However, its interesting because the only FF# used on the booking is a QF one, so I'm surprised that I'm able to preselect seats (given I'm a nobody on CX's FFP). Will wait to see if the preselected seats get updated on QF (and checkmyseat).

In the past when I have had an allocation and then an aircraft has changed, I've had to get my TA to remove my seating preference from the booking to enable me to select seats on the new aircraft. Otherwise, I get an error that says the seat map is unavailable or similar. This might be the problem you are experiencing.
