Mental image of conga lines and FX traders, bankers, QF management and MasterCard boffins with party hats, streamers and whistles and legs at 90 degrees with hands on hips middle of the night while we wait for our money to hit our account...thanks for the great image!

Thank you too. Can't stop laughing!

Gotta inject some humour into this somewhere, don't we!

One interesting card feature: This is the first time I have ever seen a major credit card company (MasterCard) allowing its brand to be subservient to that of the card promoter (Qantas). The MasterCard logo only appears on the back of the card, not the front. It will be interesting to see how this strategy plays out when dealing with merchants, especially those located overseas.

In many countries the Qantas brand (on the front of the card) is not at all well known - and rapidly losing recognition in Europe now that QF has stood aside in favour of Emirates. I suspect a sizable proportion of merchants will query the card user about producing a card that is not apparently from a recognised payment company. Will this be about as convincing as trying to pay for a restaurant meal using a Medicare card?

Get a reputable full-feature credit card. $1 = 1 QF point or better (whereas with Qantas Cash it's $2 = 1 QF point, ie half the earn rate).

If everyone had access to full-feature credit cards then there wouldn't be a market for the card, but we don't all pass credit checks... ;) despite being liquid enough to fund travel up to Platinum status and beyond :p the world is funny.

Exactly!

I have a couple examples of people now using the QF cash card in AU for everyday purchases because they can't get credit cards like you Sam.

One - my sister who is a student.
Two - a self employed friend who earns really decent coin but in funny bursts then goes surfing for 4 months (makes banks nervous)
Three - a friend who actually refuses to use c/c's as they had a slight overspending problem years back lol

This card is pretty good for all these people, certainly better than the VA card.

Still got the conga line image....ta muchly!
The card went down a treat in Europe...even the tiny little restaurants and dodgey tourist shops in back alleys of Venice...all they wanted to see was the Mastercard logo, no matter where it was and no matter what other logos etc there were...as long as it said "approved" or words to that effect in Italian, French, German or even Arabic...all was good. Not a problem at all from my end. I think as far as they were concerned, the Qantas stuff on the card was on the back, the Mastercard stuff was on the front!

Am still amazed that taxis mostly cant/wont take cards in Europe...somehow Australia isnt as backward as we are sometimes made to feel :)

Or those of us that don't have the income for the fancy Platinum cards on the market. Given I've previously used the Travelex card to lock in a good exchange rate, the QF card is a much better deal.

However we are backwards in the respect of the near highest charges to take a taxi even short distance, the dirtiest cabs, least knowledgeable drivers and above all the most ridiculous surcharges for using a CC (or even EFTPOS) to pay for the taxi ride, yes Cabcharge I am looking at you..

yes Cabcharge I am looking at you..

I bypass Cabcharge nowadays. I'm far happier dealing directly with the nearest cab and its driver via GoCatch. The fact that we "know" each other introduces a far more satisfactory level of accountability.

Still have mental images of short-sleeve white shirted Execs wearing crooked ties to their bellies and New Years Eve paper hats with whistles, wine stains, all singing We Go To Rio....deeee Jan Eeero....save me someone?!

Can anyone advise if you can transfer money on to the cash card without preauthorising the transfer via the cash card website. My partners account is locked. We are in transit and currently have poor wifi reception preventing speedy research elsewhere. Thanks in advance.

Yes, simply use the biller code listed on the back of the card (small box, may need magnifying glass) and the account number is the card number (note: not your membership number). This is how I fill my card now.

If you want to load Australian dollars (as opposed to a foreign currency at a locked in exchange rate), you can quickly transfer funds from your own bank account via BPAY.

Step 1: Login to your personal online banking account or access via telephone banking. Have your Qantas Cash BPAY details on hand (these are on the back of your card).
Step 2: Make a BPAY payment using your 16-digit card number as the reference number and the Qantas Cash Biller Code on the back of your card.
You can even set up regular loads to your Qantas Cash facility+

Thanks Sam004 much appreciated. Looks like I'm covering the next 3 days of shoe shopping.

It's not an automatic load, it takes 3 business days. Usually I'll plan ahead and load before 5pm on Wednesday, receiving an email on Friday that the funds have hit the account. If you load now, I wouldn't expect to see your money again till Tuesday or more likely, Wednesday.

The good thing is, you'll get an email as soon as it hits your account, so you don't need to constantly check ;)

Got mine last week, I dont know about others but trying to read the b,pay no is very hard for us older travellers

...I suggested that perhaps a new tier card had been issued ... In summary, the registration process was a bit of a run around and not really worth the marginal value of the card...

*** Update. I received my WP pack about 4 weeks after hitting the required points and got the PIN today by using the 1800 number and entering the WP card details instead. So a tip for anyone travelling, earning SCs close to a tier upgrade I would recommend being careful about relying on the QCash card which might get cancelled when the new one is issued as a result of your tier upgrade. Seems like an odd system, why would the prepaid MC need to change just because the colour of the card does ? Surely it would be simpler issuing a MC with around 3 years expiry (like the banks), with the same details printed on any new tier/annual replacement QFF card ?

Personally, I am happy with this short expiry date (shame I didn't get to use the SG card with only 2 months on it) as I can consider this a 'burner card' for online purchases where you really don't want the merchant to have and retain your 'main' credit card details for the next few years.

Had my first "bad" experience with the card today. It was declined at TicketMaster... don't know why and when I log into my account all seems well. It was also declined on Jetstar.com, so perhaps a bigger issue for me to deal with. I currently have $300 in the account, but the declined transactions are showing as pending, so I expect that's probably now holding my money stopping me from using it anyway.

No communication about any potential issues, and I can't access my money, how useful!

As an aside, tried booking Jetstar on my phone to avoid the CC fees, and they still showed on QantasCash in the pending area, so perhaps that bug has been fixed :(

No fees for MC debit on the mobile JQ site.

Assuming the system sees prepaid = debit, yes.

Well despite the failed transaction, it was still visible in my account and included the $8.50 booking fee.

Had a chat to the QCASH service centre, think I was connected to the UK... took a lot of button presses before finally reaching a consultant and a lot of security questions, some confusing ones, though I am still hungover too :p either way, account seems fine, there was an issue with the CVV number, perhaps in my state I entered it wrong, 3 times!
