Has Qantas got its "mojo" back?

Could be that they've got their mojo working but it just won't work on you.
I expect value for money so maybe that would explain why it won't work on me.

BTW sorry for saying something negative about Qantas as I may have upset you, I know there are 5 posters here who take offense to anything that is said which is not positive about Qantas, guess that makes 6 now. :D

It's ok. We all have so many differences in opinion.. Understandably agree for some of your points of concern..
Please don't feel ashamed to vent your gripes even without majority support on the AFF Forum, within the guidelines your posts are coherently topical & relevant.
Cheers,

Clearly everyone is entitled to their opinion, though clearly your previous post (and one in another thread) was written in such a way as to goad people into an argument. I mean to say complaining that they are only now just removing ashtrays. Come on.

BTW as for the 'tired' planes what do you want? An aircraft no more than 5 years old? Are you willing to pay a premium for that? Nope didn't think so.

From what I read, Malware was talking about value for money. Note that the Average QF fleet age 10.6 years vs average VA fleet age 4.6yrs

J return fares for random dates next week (22nd & 23rd Nov direct flights only and JQ excluded)

SYD-PER retn QF $3665 vs VA $2890
BNE-MEL retn QF $2050 vs VA $1690

So with a +20% price premium for J class fares and a fleet that is older than VA, I would say that it is the QF PAX whom are paying the premium. Admittedly the QF J product is a little bit more polished and they do have the frequency advantage over VA but is it really worth a 20-25% premium over their competitor?

no entertainment selection on the flight.

Can you please fill me in on the entertainment selection on the majority of Virgin's fleet ?

I'd much rather a 20 year old EX BA 767 with Qantas than a brand new Virgin 737 with no IFE, hard seats, basic food and wine and unpolished service.

Then the overcrowded lounges, no dedicated J lounge etc etc with Virgin....

Virgin is all style, no substance

People paying the QF fare prices seem to believe it is. But for me personally, I do not believe either carriers offers a "value for money" domestic business class fare, which is why I never pay for them from either carrier.

I didn't realise Qantas lounges were never full.... ;)

MalWare, it's not the tirades against QF, it's the logic as to why iPads aren't a good choice for the 767's that I find intriguing.

It hasn't been mentioned in this particular thread before - but I think the announcement of the share buyback is a positive sign for QF. The paying down of debt is good but personally I would have preferred that QF keep the money to accelerate the fleet replacement given the high AUD - probably never a better time to be purchasing equipment....

In some ways the same argument is a good reason to pay down debit too.

A week or so ago I replied quite positively to the question“Has Qantas got its mojo back?”.

Having just completed LAX-BNE-MEL-SYD in J, let’s see if my answer still holds up:

LAX-BNE. Reconfigured747, upper deck. Comfortable flight dueto MkII bed; one FA very affable, others, both in my cabin and the couple I ran into when visiting downstairs appeared to want to be somewhere else. No smiles, little passenger engagement; duties performed competently but no warmth (perhaps forgivable at the end of a long haul, but not at the start). No sign of, or greeting from, the FlightService Director (usually comes round with the arrival cards). Loss of one toilet in upper deck with reconfig caused a major jam before breakfast. Meals good (incl advance menu selection), wine good. ‘Priority’ bag emerged on belt about themiddle of the pack. 6/10

BNE-MEL. Brand new737. Great crew, great aircraft. Sim-leather J seats, seat back screen for IFEand good selection of programs. Decentmeal (dinner) and wines. Negative: If you are listening to the IFE, and a PA comes on, you’ll get your head fairly blasted off. The PA comes on at full volume! I mentioned this to the senior FA who said they were aware of the issue and said (I think joking) “it’s to makesure we get every one’s attention” (!) ‘Priority’ bag emerged on the belt about 1/3 into the unload. 8/10 (no points deducted for bag – given up expecting any priority delivery)

MEL-SYD. Venerable767. Self check-in-with-bag system stillabominable. In the air - great crew, decent meal (lunch), OK wines. Can’t do much with the aircraft; it’s a busy, short sector, so no big deal. ‘Priority’ bag emerged on the belt towards the end. 7/10

Summary:
QFi: absolutelynothing special compared to competitors. Better (MkII) beds, but some resulting inconveniences. Air crews badly need to take the customer service lessons their domestic counterparts are apparently taking. Current performances not sustainable.

QFd: really good. Some ageing aircraft issues, but if the crewis energised, as they are, you don’t notice the hardware defects (where present) so much.

So has Qantas got its mojo back? Domestic, yes. International – no, or not yet.

How about now?

Oh my goodness missed that moment completely

How about now?

No: still doing whatever EK says, listening to pax even less than before; downgrading WP; downgrading F, both on the gound (eg new LHR lounge, rubbish razors in the Aus Flounges) and in the air (J meals in F, albeit with a few extra) and removing loos from J so that it is common to wait 1/2 hr at peak time; stupid cardboard boxes of tepid food on DXB-LHR sectors in J… I could go on. It seem AJ's leadership is trying to remove as many of the front of house premium benefits/standars as possible. The premium product used to be world class now it is approaching star class.

So razors a big gripe? F Hasn't been 'downgraded', new LHR lounge is not 'downgraded' QF don't even have one.

removing loos from J so that it is common to wait 1/2 hr at peak time;
Never waited 30 min for a toilet on an A380, anyway this was YEARS ago when the refitted the upper-deck.

The premium product used to be world class now it is approaching star class.
