While I love the story (and it gave me a bit of a laugh), surely there must have been a cheaper way to get the Tix down to MEL. AAE Same day? Something like that?

I’m surprised, but then again perhaps JQ staff don’t know about these things as no one has any value from doing a run on JQ.

I guess that might be harder to do on Christmas Eve!

It would be possible even on Christmas day. If he managed to have enough time to book a tix, get to airport, fly to QLD, pick up tickets, fly back to MEL, then AAE should have been able to "Next Flight" the tix.

Australian Air Express - Next Flight

But I don't know the cost, have only dealt with Next flight for certain IT parts, and I wasn't paying... Let's just say that I think the company involved was up for several hundred $ for the privilege.

What a clown

the scanners at the G scan the bar code - you do NOT need the original as any AFL fan will tell you... maybe someone could have got the TIX from his car and scanned them for him then sent an email...

Would have thought that only applies if you had a connecting flight :confused:

I guess in this case his 'connecting' flight was his return sector MCY-MEL but I thought the 2 hour rule was for connecting flights on had separate pnrs to allow for luggage collection for first flight then rechecking bags for next flight prior to 30 min close off.

Seriously why was he even calling Jetstar anyway? Sounds like he was trying to create a drama for himself. The Age also seemed to be clutching at straws desperately trying to make another JQ bashing story come to fruition - which it didn't.

For a guy who teaches finance & economics I find it surprising he doesn't have the ability to get on the internet & a return booking MEL/MCY/MEL. If the system somehow didn't let him book both flights if his departure was within 2 hours of arrival he could simply make two one way bookings & OLCI for both.

Given that the MCY/MEL flight was the same aircraft it's not like he could miss the 'connecting flight' anyway.

PS I note that in the photo in The Age the person is holding two OLCI boarding passes so he's obviously got access to the internet to OLCI but for some mysterious reason can't actually make the booking this same way.

Ticketmaster can even issue replacement tickets at the ground if you can provide enough personal details. Though I guess since he bought them off ebay, that may not have worked.

Big fuss over nothing if you ask me.
Why not just book two separate one-way flights on the internet? No questions asked then. All perfectly easy to do and.
He's just travelling with hand luggage - no problem. Can't believe this even made it into the paper.

AUS 4/58 at lunch,bet he's wishing he hadn't bothered:!::mrgreen::mrgreen:
