Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Hmm I attempted to book myself a JASA and my partner a classic award today for identical flights.

They are both showing at U class.

On my ref I get: QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD 1 ADT REF (my ref)

On her ref I get:CLASSIC AWARD POINTS DEDUCTION 1 PASSENGER REF (her ref)

Is that correct that given we are both U class bookings, that mine was successfully booked as a JASA?

You will earn points + status credits, your partner will not. Yours is a successful JASA

Yes, both ASAs (as we know and love them) and classic awards book into U class

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Out of interest whats the difference between J and U class or is it the same thing?

J is for a full-fare paying Business Class booking
U is for an Any Seat Award Business Class booking

Same seat. Same service. Same fare conditions. Originating from different buckets.

Not necessarily same fare conditions...

Wow, I don't know how all you guys were able to book those mASA's in U class. I was just on the phone for almost 2 hours trying to book SYD-MEL-ADL-MEL-SYD at the classic award points rates + whatever taxes for my partner and myself, spoke to 3 agents and was still unsuccessful!!!

As there are direct flights from SYD-ADL the pricing for a MEL transit will be the same as SYD-MEL plus MEL-ADL. The CSA won't be able to get around this. Try booking direct SYD-ADL.

Did you check for U availability on the days/flights you want? Again if there is no availability the CSA won't be able to do anything.

I probably don't understand how it works but I can see it as a Classic Award for 72,000 points and $212.13.

Classic awards and ASA price differently. They can be the same, but for more exotic routes will be different. Classic awards give an indication of availability and price but ASA may be different, depending.

I have just received a request to complete a survey on QF's FF program. A considerable part of it was comparing QF with VA's programs. I think I made my opinion clear, particularly with the "ability of the website to book an award seat". QF - zero.

Have a strange question, and I can't see that it's been asked yet, so here goes.

I'm looking for 2 X F class seats on SYD-AKL in April. At this stage they're showing available as classic awards, but on the EK flight number. When I go to "buy" the seats as paid seats, the search show the QF codeshare flight number instead. If i then select "show in points" it's around 3 times the cost of classic award. As it's an EK flight, is it possible to call up and get these seats as marginal FASA's?

Cheers in advance

When you click on show in points you will see the 'points plus pay' points level, which will be higher than the classic award level.

I am not sure about booking an ASA on EK metal - I think not.

Dare I suggest it, but you may have to ring up and ask an experienced CSA. It may take more than one phone call.

Is it worth the cost doing F ?
Mrs B & I are doing J in April and some have suggested to me that even J isn't worth it.
That said, we are doing ADL-SYD-AKL return so worth it to us, especially as it is Mrs B's birthday on the day we fly out so I was more than happy to cough up.

Have received the same, although I'm yet to complete it. Something to do with having work :( (but still finding time to check up on threads here, lol).

I think it is.. mainly as we want to try the EK F product without spending $15K each to do so. If we like it, then we may well stump up the cash (and miles) for a long haul trip on EK F... This is just a taster really... :)

Yes I thought it was an excellent use of roughly 50,000 QFF points one way when I did it recently as a classic award.
I can now say that I've had a shower on a plane.

Haha Newk you read my mind... I really just want to have a shower on board... Sad but true.. And for 50K points, I think that makes it worth it no question.
