re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hello, did not know where to post this but am seeking some info please? A few weeks back I booked a flight to Syd from Adel to take advantage of extra scs. I rang as I wanted to book business using classic awards point levels. The operator said I could do it online but when I explained I wanted the ASA at classic rates so I could earn scs - I think had to explain a couple of times and mentioned marginal JASA - she went away and came back and said thats ok so went ahead and booked and I paid extra for taxes etc.
Was just then checking my bookings and noticed it did not have my ff number there. I added that and now it shows up in bookings ok but I also noticed it said class U. Is that ok to earn sc or should have been J as I asked for in the first place? Thanks.

U Class is Business Class.... So sounds good there.

In regard to the xASA (MASA) have a good look at your activity statement on Qantas.com, look for the following and if you see the same then all good and smile...

QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD (1) ADT REF ********

Thanks so much for your reply and help Shintaro! yes I did find that there. So all good now hopefully. I hope I earn the 50% scs also!

Btw - I loved the Samurai when I was a kid - and Shintaro was my hero!! I used to dream of being an Iga Ninja!!!

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Oct 13|Dec 13| J | MEL-BRIS-CNS return |144000 points (2 PAX) 240 sc |$1077.00 co payment

CSR Gabby was excellent - handled quickly and efficiently but just out of interest booked this 28/10/2013 - CC charge for co payment $1077.00 is sitting twice on my CC - called Qantas and they advise that the 2nd amount of $1077 is not charged and drops off in 3-5 days - this has happened to me once before, anyone know why ?

Had this before, not sure why it happens but their nightly audit will flag such transactions usually and will be removed within a few days as they have advised you

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Just been on the phone with QF on the ASA booking number,

I inquired about a few different bookings for travel to DXB in feb 14, found availability in First class (P) and thought I'll try booking my first ever mASA,

MEL-SYD (U)
SYD-DXB (P)
DXB-SYD (P)
SYD-MEL (U)

was quoted 288,000 points plus a copayment of $1700. I asked to check the copayment if I excluded the MEL-SYD-MEL legs to bring down co-payment and it worked! It reduced copayment down to $1022 so I booked it!

SYD-DXB-SYD (P) First class 288,000 points + $1022 co-payment. According to the calculator on the QF website, should give me 540 SC and ~ 45,000 points.

Is this a good booking? Is the copayment reasonable? The intention of this is not a status run (i genuinely have to go to DXB). The agent was great and looked at various options for me, never once mentioned a booking fee (neither points or $) and was all done in 15 minutes. He also advised I can cancel anytime with a penalty of 5000 points which I am happy with.

I'm excited :)

Luckily I have a quite large CC limit on the card used or I guess it could have declined any transactions I was going to make if it had gone over limit, but interestingly this did not happen when I booked a OWE Award fare a few months ago and paid for the taxes by same CC..so must be linked somehow to ASA's and co payment ? No matter so long as it drops off

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Hopefully booking an ASA (U class) today... Have looked at the qff website just now (after 2am melb time), in which the flight I'm after is currently not listed.

There are only 4 flights from Melb to NY that are currently listed and can book; none of them QF flights.

Date of booking shall be to NY on Fri Oct 24th, 2014.

Please tell me is due to being too early? And to try again in say 6 or so hours? (8am melb time).

MEL to NYC on QF can only be done using QF107 ex SYD or ex LAX.

Any other option would employ a QF codeshare on AA metal.

You can't book AA flights more than 330 days in advance.

Aside from that, this far out, Trans Pacific awards in business class on Friday are generally a tough gig.

I've wondered about this, many flights to LAX are direct out of BNE is it they want to fill up the 747's, its what we had to do on our last ASA, no 380 J flights available plenty of the 747.

May need a bit of luck for U class release for a Friday departure to USA....if it does get released at 11am, jump on it

Also cuts the number of WP's entering the Flounges in SYD/MEL.

Thanks for the replies, 1 extra flight added, but not mine.

Mmmm... "quick rrply" says I'm not logged in, but using the + button option (new version, with ads) works the replies fine?

Back to my main reply:

It shall be a connection flight via LAX, which I did a test search for direct lax flight, which is showing; but no seats can be booked.

Anyway, back to bed for a few hours, set my alarm for 10.50am!

Will try 1.30pm.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Just had success - started call at 10.28am with Karen (after using the 1300 number). As soon as I'd asked for an ASA in Uniform class, she knew what I meant and as I had the flight details (QF661 BNE/ADL on Thursday), she said "there is 1 left" and had it booked and paid in 3mins 40 secs (I had the timer on my iPhone going and stopped it when she said "that's completed now"). 24K points and $149.43 (after telling her to use the slider, she laughed and said "ah, you've done this before :D") [yes, but it was online :()

She then asked me how I knew about ASA's and I mentioned AFF. Well, 10 mins later I got off the phone - she has had a number of informed people (mostly AFF'ers I'd think) but she has also been actively telling pax to get ASA's rather than Classics to either climb the status ladder or re-qualify. I gave her the AFF web site details and she will now tell other pax that want to understand the difference between Classics and ASA's.

Win, win :D

J is AFF lingo for anything in business no matter which fare bucket
It is my understanding that the point of the (J)ASAs is to get one in U class as it gives the cheapest rates
And welcome to another Adelaide AFFer

Rang QF today to ask about a MASA and the operator was all over it, seems teething problems are over. I didn't proceed as it happens for a multitude of reasons but full points to the very knowledgeable operator.

|SYD-LHR| QF1 | J |128,000 points | $685 | 240 sc |

Wendy - great service and fully informed about mASA's.
Took about 30 minutes mainly due to a few complexities (around 2 pax) , but resolved them efficiently.
I had ascertained Classic Award J availability prior.
MrsB did the telephone booking (being more tactful than I) and then thanked Wendy for her assistance.

and thanks to AFF mods & members for persisting ( 'positive' negativity) with QF.

With my previous success of reducing a transfer I tried my luck again today in Karratha and tried to get on the 45 minute earlier empty QF903 service at check in. Unfortunately even with no J seats taken they couldn't move me onto the earlier service without U class being available. Oh well just have to have a quicker shower on my transfer in Perth Karratha Lounge is not the best though
