Has anyone had success with the call-up "Marginal" xASA's?

Anyone tried to book yesterday or today? When I rang late yesterday and again this morning, the CSAs advised that the particular booking engine was down, with faults reported. This morning's agent suggested it was everyone trying to get in before 30th June.

Tried HUACA, and no problem the second time making a JASA swansong booking SYD-MEL-SYD for June 2015. Fully refundable, and has shown up as QANTAS & JETSTAR ANY SEAT AWARD 1 ADT. Unlike BARKS, eticket came through promptly, so all good.

Bet there will be a large number done in this last week :D ;).

I just found two Cellarmaster transactions of 1,000 (from 10 April) and 3,174 (from 19 May) haven't posted yet....but will wait until the end, hoping that they might post in time. Also Thursdays EpiQure email offers would be nice to have bonus offers in there...

Nearly time to do the family sweep of accounts collecting those pesky points to book one last MASA.... Why not ;-)

Dunno, I see excellent value in flying F SYD-LHR-SYD for $1,550. Sure the recent FASA I booked cost $2,000 but given I pick up 74,400 QFFP & 840SC - I can see why QF is giving them the flick. $450 extra bucks to achieve >2/3 of WP....what a joke!

Can't say the same for the new partner SC earn ..... this will be the reason I move away from QFF.

Yeah, just those measly 384,000 points omitted from your equation... ;)

Yeah, but ComeFlyWithMe has pointed a big flaw in your argument, hasn't he? ;-)

I know some airlines sells points at 4 cents, and some people value points at 1 cent, but considering credit card surcharges in most places are more than 1 cents, let's say we nominally value them at 2 cents for this argument. At 2 cents per point, and after considering the points earned in those flights, you'd be out of pocket by about $6500 for what you've described as 2/3 to WP. I know there have been far cheaper ways to obtain WP...

Agreed, but you have to pay some to earn some...., can see you're on the ball with my numbers, but what about yours, I'm sure at full revenue fares you need to spend a bit to accumulate ~384k in points.... even if a byproduct of flying, it's still revenue and obviously priced into the fare is it not...?

What came first, the chicken or the egg...

For me the egg has always been classic awards. Been a big redeemer of these awards (>50 long haul F/J flights) for well over a decade before I even heard the term JASA, MASA or knew you could pay the ATO on your CC.

I value all points (other than ATO induced) as free - YMMV.

QFF is a poor choice for anyone using ATO funded points .... unless status is the prime motivation!

For me 384,000 QFF points has a minimum cost of ~$1612, add this to the numbers and you can "calculate" the cost of your WP status via this method as follows: -

($1612 + $450)=$2062) + 33.3% = $2,748

An interesting question is that people always talk about what a Qantas frequent flyer point is worth....My Question is what is the value / cost / worth of WP status...? Even more interesting is the value / cost / worth of all tier levels being P1, WP, SG, & PS....? What does everyone think, after all as a company, Qantas (shareholders) care more about revenue than anything else don't they...? So what is a fair price to pay for these status tiers including the elite's...?

Or am I merely being too simplistic in my analysis...?

I reckon that is an interesting question that deserves a thread all to itself.

The value of status only comes with consistent flying on OW carriers, and with WP it's really dom J lounge and int F lounge when flying in a lower class.

Sure, someone might get WP at a low cost, but it's highly unlikely they're going to really utilise the benefits fully if their flying pattern is occasional, so overall cost to QF would be quite low.

The same argument applies to mASAs. QF make much more in co-pay for the same classic seat. I would suggest the incremental points/SC cost would be very minimal when scaled. Apparently it's bleeding them dry. Forget for a moment their inconsistent and poor quality hard and soft product, lest we mention their fare pricing, and lack of routes...

IMO status is not worth a cent more than what would eventuate from your work/leisure flying.

If MASA's are "apparently" expensive to purchase....I can't see why anyone would be upset they are being pulled. If you're booking a MASA today - "apparently" you should be able to afford the same revenue ticket on the 1st July :p:p:p

Or just make it simpler & farer and just book a much cheaper classic award seat...

So simple.. So fair.. Qantas should be So happy

The last J tickets I bought were for our 40th wedding anniversary. I guess I could think about buying another one....but wait....the pesky points totals would start growing alarmingly.

Sounds like a great way to start a toaster collection... :D

I did not even imply "...MASAs are apparently expensive to purchase...". You claimed one can spend a mere $500 to get 2/3 to WP. That logic was shown to have been flawed.

Whether MASAs are expensive or not, whether they would allow an easy path to WP, whether Qantas should have scrapped them, etc, are all valid questions, but outside the scope of the discussion.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make.

 Will admit - this one confused me!

What's flawed? I've explained that I/you/anyone with means can easily earn 398,000 QFFP for nothing....add $1,550 and you've got a return SYD-LHR first class sorted....add another $450 and you're well on your way to Platinum with 74,400 QFFP thrown in for kicks.

I will confess my numbers were wrong. The actually earn on the two F/MASA I've booked for next year will generate 156,800 QFFP and 1,840SC .... I didn't add the BNE-SYD/SYD-BNE J sectors - they cost me a whopping $122 and generate 8,000 QFFP and 160SC.....then there is the multi 8,000 bonus points that will also come my way.

I have done enough to be Platinum in 2015. Mrscove is lagging. Then there is 2016 to think about but there is still time.

Mrscove has become a status fiend. All I wanted was Lifetime Gold and Platinum while it was achievable with MASAs on domestic runs.
