I grew up on a farm and as a young bloke in my teens would plough the fields all night long in the tractor.
Saw some really spooky stuff during that time in the dead of night that I just could never explain.

..aaaand .. we haven't had a single.. science can explain it all post yet… wow…..

I WANT TO BELIEVE

Not if you believe in something stupid.... (Flat earth, Chemtrails..etc)
Your definition of stupid?

How about self belief to be better and stronger? To beat sickness and other chronic conditions? You're a sports person right? If you don't believe you won't be any good.

I 'believe' the OP defined the term quite well, actually.

True! But all of that is "to be seen"/Not disproven... Belief in completely disproven/irrational theories or non existent physical items... that's stupid.

UFOs are usually non existent to the majority who do not see them. Does someone need to prove that they saw a UFO? I don't think so. Although trying to disprove what someone saw with theories about illusions and such can be seen as stupid.

Because our society and belief system is evidence-based. Having beliefs in concepts that are not available to be proven is generally regarded as not useful and many may suggest that such random brain activity is indivisible from stupidity, to use just one term.

Like a flat earth, for example?

Because our society and belief system is evidence-based

I opine that this statement is a long bow indeed..almost all the religions fail this test.
Very little of our social structure is truly evidence based, consider politics….
An evidence based study might find that most of our social structure is based upon belief… :-)
