Has anyone been able to permanently request not being allocated an exit row seat?

Because I suffer from really bad industrial deafness (can't properly hear someone talking to me when there is a lot of background noise or in a crowded place where people are all talking such as a pub) I decline exit row seats when the system allocates them to me (as I wouldn't be able to hear crew instructions in an emergency).

The problem that I have now is that as a WP on the Q400 flights to and from NW Tassie I seem to always get allocated an emergency row seat in either row 1 or 2, and then when I opt out of that when I do online check-in it then allocates me a seat way down the back of the plane.

Has anyone been able to get "don't allocate to an emergency row seat" added to their profile at Qantas?

I'm guessing you have already tried but have you emailed QF directly.
As you said have said you will be moved anyway so I'm sure there has to be something they can do on their systems

Well it seems that there is no such functionality in the system according to the call centre - the only options are the forward or rear and window or aisle seating preferences that you can select in your frequent flyer profile. Have filled in a customer care form thingy asking them to look into it, and while I was at it I also did a please fix request for the fact that you can't select BWT in the timetables section of the website - even though they have been flying into and out of BWT daily for more than a year now.

I think call Qantas and ask them to annotate your FF profile
It seems that they don't have the functionality to do that!

I dont have your concern but would love to opt out of exit row because i hate having to put my personal item in the overhead bin.

It particularly irks me when I've selected my preferred seat (aisle, forward) and then they think they have done me a favour by moving me to an exit row which if I wanted I would have selected at the time of booking or check-in.

By all means send an offer to move but dont just move me.

It is sounding like they might have to create an additional drop down menu box for exit rows in the personal preferences page - I will post an update when I hear more from them.

Latest is that I will need to ring the call centre after I make a booking and they can manually allocate me a non exit row seat. I'm a little doubtful about whether they will be able to do it with the QantasLink Q400 services but will try when I make my next booking...

Q400 (and smaller) don’t allow pre-check in seat selection for weight and balance considerations. I found it also ignored window/aisle preferences often.

I used to fly BNE-NTL frequently and it wouldn’t be unusual for the front 6-10 rows to be 50% full but the rest of the plane was chockers.

It seems like a very niche problem I’m not surprised there isn’t a workaround. I doubt the call centre would be able to fix it, possibly if you call after allocation they can move you, but otherwise something you’d have to fix at the airport.

There is a workaround that a call centre or TA could do (they wouldn't really know about it though). They would need to add a 'NOEX' SR element into the booking. This would then inhibit the DCS from allocating an exit row.

Awesome!! Many thanks!! What does SR mean?
