Hand luggage

I'm on a cheapish ticket, Brisbane to Miami (QF and American Airlines) via LA and then Europe (American Airlines) and then home (Emirates).

I am taking one suitcase, not a huge one, and I'd like to take two carry-on items. One small backpack, and one camera case (A shoulder bag, maybe 30cm by 20cm by 20cm, with a small camera and a few lenses.

Will I have issues with my 2 hand luggage items? Or would that be OK? My backpack has all my papers, laptop, chargers, and a phone charging brick. Or do I need to somehow put my camera and lenses into my backpack?

You should be fine with the back pack and camera case you describe.

Your checked luggage would be tagged through to MIA although you still need to collect it at LAX, pass customs and redeposit it before flying to MIA.
