Bumping an oldish thread but....

Is there a qantas policy with regards this?

A search of flyertalk revealed that on BA it's official policy to allow guests for a drink.

My scenario is as follows... I'm in J partner in Y, points upgrade to J or W requested but qf 94 12th May looking very full in J. F still looks like a possible upgrade chance. J really has no option to invite for drink, thus F might allow better chance to meet for drink during flight. Best case scenario we both get upgrade F and J then can meet in J lounge upstairs only downside not seated together.

Any experiences or knowledge of Qantas policy much appreciated.

Thanks

Jakob

I don't think you can upgrade from Y to F. And you have to make a selection between Y+ or J for your upgrade request. You can't put in a request for both.

Sorry I think I wasn't clear.. I've put her (partner) in for J upgrade with backup of W if no J available. I was considering upgrading myself from (paid) J to F with the surrounding issues of my post...

Thanks

Jakob

I believe (but am not completely sure) that the 'official' Qantas policy is that you may only visit people in a lower cabin but not a higher cabin - so you're welcome to go talk to your colleague in J/Y+/Y but they can't join you in F. I don't believe they have the 'drinks' policy that you mention on BA.

I believe the 'unofficial' policy with J & F differs depending on the aircraft - on the 747s I've seen a few people bring someone into the F cabin for a short period but since the introduction of the A380 it seems the policy is to use the shared Business lounge on the upper deck.

My only experience actually having someone from J join us in F was on BA not QF so the above is only what I've observed over the years not my actual personal experience.

I’d say in regards to jakob, no matter where you end up, just have a quiet word with a senior Fa and ask, you can only be rebuffed and sent to Y, but hopefully they’d be happy in either scenario for you to have a drink in the J bar, or if you were in F, o make use of the ottoman!

Actually you can request both. It's asks you at the time if you want to request a Y+ upgrade if the J is unsuccessful

Thanks, your right, I'll ask and report back the outcome...
