I've booked two nights at the Grand Stanford Hong Kong - one on points and one at a Club Intercontinental rate. I didn't want to pay for two nights at the CI rate because we don't get in until about 10.00pm and i want to use up some remaining points from RA days long ago. I only have Gold status with the chain now. We have had a few emails back and forth as I tried to get them to link the bookings and to avoid a room change. No deal. They are not prepared for me to stay in the lower level award room and accept a downgrade. They would rather the extra expense of a room change. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Am I missing something?
