If a mango burns in the forest and nobody hears it ... ?
Watching Four Corners on literacy and children in school, I hear a professor of education at SYD Uni say that children are “disinterested” (unbiased). I’m fairly sure she meant they were uninterested in grammar, literacy and reading.
What amazes me about the quote was that one mango tree in 10 was left standing!
I could be pedantic here and say that actually 9 out of 10 mango trees were left standing: the original meaning of decimate was to reduce BY 1/10th, now altered to sound better and more dramatic that an event is reduced TO 1/10th.What amazes me about the quote was that one mango tree in 10 was left standing!
