Hi all, we are currently planning a trip to Rome in November of next year (yes 2009) and MrsGurio and i are having an argument over how to get there. And thanks to all you guys here, so i think you owe me one (lol), i want to, and reckon i can, push for a DONE4 as MrsGurio said that the only way she will go straight through is if she went Business (is there a *ONE4 for PE?). Now we have to go to FCO but aside from that we have no other pressing destinations to go to. What i want is a fairly simple routing that will maximise dollars and get me WP (and MrsGurio and GrommetGurio if poss.)

What are your suggestions with routing and places to get it funded from at the moment? Realistically we wouldnt be looking at doing any funding for the airfares for a few months if we can help it.

I was thinking something along the lines of a reward trip to pick it up from whereever (JNB, SIN, wherever) about the only thing we would need to keep in mind would be that we would want to go on a land segment from FCO to MIA and we would have to go from MIA to SYD so that i can pay for the next trip!

So to save confusion i will try to put across what we need to do.

??? - FCO - (cruise) - MIA - SYD and then we'll get from there to HBA and back on our own steam, and then start from SYD - ???

The places we would like to go to are England, Germany, France, Spain, possibly Russia but not neccesary, and pretty much anywhere a cruise leaves from as we love them.

OK - starting simply the following route would hit most of your requirements:

nrt-lhr-dme-mad-fco-lhr-mia-lax-syd-nrt

It only achieves 960 SCs and I am not sure that you can treat fco-mia as a land segment.

It does miss out on Germany though.

I suggested routing from NRT as this is a fairly cheap starting point for a DONE4. Obviously I havent maxed out the SWP sectors which would help on the way to WP.

I think that the main hurdle to get a real OW expert to clarify is the "land" segment FCO-MIA...

Not specifically; however, you can purchase a LHONEx/LLONEx with PE upgrades.
Code:
12. SURCHARGES
Passengers may travel in QF Premium Economy cabin, or BA World Traveller Plus
cabin for an additional charge, per flight segment of:

Sectors between SWP and Africa
Sectors between SWP and Europe
Sectors between SWP and North America
Sectors between SWP and South America
AUD1100 GBP500 USD1000

Sectors between SWP and Asia
Sectors between Europe and Africa
Sectors between Europe and Asia
Sectors between Europe and North America
Sectors between Europe and South America
Sectors within continents
AUD750 GBP350 USD700

Sounds good, but what is the theory with the bolded bits? That would be better if it was a land segment. Also, is it ok to go straight to FCO as opposed to going through DME? We won't have a lot of time before the trip to have a look round and i was thinking of the other countries in say June/July 2010 (hell that sounds scary)

Well its closer, it will givce us QP which is a big stepup and then it will be up to me to see i get WP!

It does miss out on Germany though.

Not a huge concern but it would be nice

If need be i guess we can but once again not nescessary and MrsGurio probably wouldn't go for it anyway.

I guess this is the stickler at the moment isn't it? We will need clarification before we go any further.

There be the problem:
OWE Rules said:
Intermediate surface sectors are permitted at the passenger’s expense. Transoceanic surface sectors
between TC1-TC2 and TC1-TC3 are not permitted.
EXCEPTION: For travel originating in the South West Pacific, one transoceanic surface sector
between TC1-TC2 or TC1-TC3 is permitted.
Since starting in Asia, the exception does not apply.
