Looking to get back from the US next year, decided to go with FJ via NAN.
Wanted to book LAX-NAN-MEL in one hit so I did a multicity search and was quoted 192k points for two pax one way in J.

This was a few weeks ago, I was flexible on my day of departure as long as it was within a two week window. But I found that for the LAX-NAN leg in particular, J seats within my two week window were going fast. I didn't have the required amount of points but a few days ago I decided to book just the LAX-NAN leg before the seats all disappear so locked that it and it cost me 144k for two pax in J.

I thought as long as I've got this leg secure I should be ok as plenty of J award availability on NAN-MEL esp as I don't mind going via BNE or SYD. So after that -144k I had about 33k points left and in a couple of weeks around 20k points will come through from my credit card and I should be sweet.

However, yesterday I searched NAN-MEL and was quoted 100k points for two pax one way in J ?

Is the QF booking engine supposed to do this ? I feel like I just got shafted as was expecting it to cost 48k. Now I'm not gonna be able to afford it lol.

Is there anyway to rectify this problem and book the whole thing at the initial rate of 192k points ? Maybe over the phone ? If I cancel my LAX-NAN booking will it immediately go back into inventory ?

Thanks

In no way whatsoever did you get "shafted". Surely if you think a little bit about the zones on the QFF chart you can work out why it happened that way. The converse is of course that longer trips generally become better value.

With the right attitude, you might be able to call up and get the NAN-MEL legs added on and then get the whole thing repriced.

Now with contactless delivery, shop online to get drinks delivered to your door or pick up in-store in 30 minutes. Lowest Liquor Price Guarantee. Biggest Range.

Its not too expensive to cancel and rebook, award seats may or may not go back into inventory, often the operator can grab them anyway .
