I need 35 SC to become PS by 30 June... I'm already doing mel-syd-mel some time in June to visit family (so 20sc...) As a few may know my mum is very sick (Cancer... dont smoke people... no, really just dont do it...) so since my last 3 weekend "getaways" have been to Sydney to support my dad who is desperately trying to support mum who is now in Paliative care as well as deal with the hordes of relatives who want to see her I (and my wife and daughter) need a break...

So I am after suggestions for a quick (say thurs to mon) getaway... we will probably avoid the Queen's Birthday LW, done some investigation and prices seem well ad truly jacked up...

after reading another thread here I looked at QF holidays and found a Thu-Mon in Canberra (did my PhD in Canberra... pretty fond of the place) at the novotel (4ish *) + flights for 1280 (for 2Adults and one 4yo)

I'm after any suggestions people may have for a quick somewhat indulgent break that will, preferably, earn me at least 15SC (otherwise I would probably just go camping.. Its to short a time since I was a student.. still a little miserly!)

When is your public holiday?

It is Foundation Day here in WA on Mon 1 June..

June 8th ...

Late June is getting to School Holidays for most states so there'll be precious little discounting for travel around then.

Late June is getting to School Hols nationally so there'll be little discount there.
Yep.. petty much decide to do some work on that monday so I can justify a day off later... (academia...)

so no ideas.. no one had had any good value family escapes of late?? (any young families here??)

Problem is QF sort of restricts you (more or less) to other capitals plus if you're lucky Tassie (oh and of course Mildura), lot of "escape" type destinations are the domain of JQ, TT & DJ. Maybe if you can get a cheap fare to Brisbane on QF then pick up a car to take you to Gold or Sunshine coast and fly directly back on another carrier, the MEL-BNE will get you your 15 SCs.

If you take the QF restriction away, a cheap flight on Tiger, for example to Rockhampton and a short drive to the Rydges Capricorn Resort at Yeppoon is a good escape, with activities for adults and your 4 yo. Plenty of other examples too to Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Hobart, Alice Springs, Byron Bay, Coffs etc ..

Not an option due to the 15SC requirement.
But the car hire idea is, well.. an idea..
What class do you need to fly Jet Star to get SC? (as the do newcastle... near the Hunter :) )

Adeliade is also apealing... anyone know a good hotel/accom in proximity to the Mclarenvale?

Any "JetFlex" fare yield full economy SC's.

e.g. MEL-NTL is ~$89 on saver with no SC's or $289 on Flex with 20 SC's.

On THU 18 Jun you can fly MEL-BRI for $169 (15 SC)
on Mon 22 Jun you can fly back BRI-SYD-MEL for $221 (20 SC)

A total of 35 SC for $390

You could do it on one day if you were keen. I've done worse!

McLaren Vale is a short trip from Adelaide. But then too long that I've basically never been there in the last 7 years of living in Adelaide. For the few days that you are considering, you might even look at the Novotel resort in the Barossa, or I think there is another resort in the barossa. Or even look to going to the Clare Valley and doing the reisling trail - well maybe not so good for a 4 year old.
