Hi all,

I'm looking at booking a cheap J fare with MH from Singapore to Japan next year, they're currently on sale for a bit under a third of the next reasonable competitor.
I understand the hard product isn't considered top notch (angled flat seat for example) but I'm not too concerned with that, it seems like a great opportunity to actually go for some QF status.

I'm a bit worried about MH potentially going out of business so consulted my travel insurance for coverage, and they'll cover cancellation of my flights due to insolvency of an airline BUT only if I book through a "licensed travel agent" (I specifically asked if I could book direct through the airline and was told that wasn't covered).

So- I'm looking for a good, reasonable travel agent that's able to offer me the same fares quoted by MH's website, who is "licensed" (?). I was told they don't need to be Australian, just need to be a recognized travel agent. I'm not sure if someone local is able to sell the (I assume Singaporean fare) MH's website is quoting to me?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions. Should I just rock up to flight center and see what they can do..? (I don't like them, but I can suffer through it)

Many thanks in advance. Apologies if this is a sticky or something covered elsewhere!

Tyson.

I did before they will match (or beat by $1) the fair the airline has on thier website. If you get a few things such as hotels and stuff they might take off more. I went in with flights to match and hotel prices to match and beat and they did it all and i got small discounts here and there.

They even waived the credit card surcharge as part of their price beat policy but i think some of them dont do this or it depends on the fare and the agent you see.

Recently travel agent also got me a seat assignment on the plane as part of the booking. Normally like $25 per international flight from Qantas but all done for free on cheap economy seats. Score $50 there i guess.

Unless an Australian agent can secure a 20% discount over what you can get don't bother. Zuji Singapore alwyas has promos might be worth checking out.

Also remember you don't need insuance to cover insolvency if you purchase the ticket on CC within 6months of travel. You can simply dispute the CC charge as the merchant is unable to provide the service

Friend just booked a Y+ flight during the current early bird sale with QF to the US. Asked and got $150 off the sale fare. Its not 20% but i thought it was good.

So have you travelled yet & did the seat allocation stick?

I have not travelled yet but the seat still shows up in my booking.
I even checked expertflyer and it shows the seat as taken.

It could stick for now but 3 days before when the names cut across from reservations to checkin there may be a comment against your name saying the seat fee is unpaid.

You will find that travel agents in Australia do not have access to some of the most heavily discounted J fares that are available on line. In the past we have found that MH offers an excellent J product for a very reasonable price out of Asia. While may not have fully flat beds, the length of the trips mean it's not an issue. If purchased by cc that should be enough of a risk management strategy in the unlikely event MH goes out of business.

+1 to Flight Centre Singapore. I have used them before to sort out discounted F fares which aren't available to Australian travel agents (or direct through airline websites) but are available if purchased through a Singapore based TA.
Was even able to get access to discount F SYD-SIN-FRA which a Sydney TA couldn't get but a Singapore one could.

Does the difference only exist when they are having a promo?
