Good News! Pyjamas on (almost) all Qantas international flights in J!

I was on QF46 DPS-MEL on 28/01 and can confirm no PJs were proactively offered by the crew.

No one asked for them either, so I didn't too.

The RM Williams branded amenity kit is a big step up from the "vintage" / cheap looking one in Q4 of last year though.
Pretty sure someone mentioned up thread that they don’t carry PJs on 737s?

I don’t recall that?
It was speculated very early on that 737 operated aircraft don’t get PJs. No one has definitely confirmed / denied that. But there are at least two reports now (also post #225) where no PJs on a 737. Not aware of any report of receiving PJs on a QF narrow body.
This article by AFF suggests PJs are available both ways MEL-DPS: Qantas Now Gives Pyjamas in Business Class to Asia
Maybe only when it’s an A330?
It would seem a bit weird though, changing into PJs on a 737 without flat beds.
Yes

MEL was defo a 737 at the time of the article. Although they may have made an error there?

Just on QF127 to HKG and told no pajamas after asking. Said because it is a daytime fight. Reminded them it is a looooong daytime flight. The disappointment continues.

Was it the CSM? Maybe check with them if you get a chance? They should have them… i got them to Manila the other day… a shorter daytime flight!

Is this a newish thing? I flew both SCL-SYD and SYD-JNB in 2024 -- both daytime flights -- and was proactively offered pyjamas both times.

Or is this on-request approach to daytime flights reserved for relatively shorter Australia-Asia flights?

How is the average passenger or first time J pax meant to know they need to ask for something?
Valid question, one that the airline industry seems to like to skimp on (and not just QF - I missed a couple of SQ amenities kits because I forgot to ask). But yeh lots of things that are ifykyk

I think when we're talking about daytime flight, its asia medium haul. Those are in the long haul category and reasonable expectation to goto sleep at some point.

I guess.. but isnt that the same with anything?

How do they know they can take the small pillow on Qatar, or take home the PJs? Or that they can remove the sash belt during cruise? Or that they can ask for pudding and dessert?

It’s a bit like the amenity kits on SQ… not many people know they’re on request… but often once one pax asks for them, others do too.

What's next though. Only get a meal if you ask for one?

J is meant to be a premium product and service. If something is available it should be offered.

It's common sense that they're not going to re-use pyjamas. I've flown QR J a number of times and had no idea you could take the small pillow. So clearly people don't know.

I just don't get the point of trying to save $5 on pyjamas for a flight that costs several thousand. If it's a cost thing, add $5 more to the fare. People won't notice that difference. How about airlines just provide good service...or should one have to ask for that too? :)

No PJs offered SYD-BKK daytime flight recently ('we don't give them out on daytime flights'). I asked, and a set was 'found'.

Add hot/cold towels to that.

YES. As someone whose face inexplicably goes into oil hyper-production mode when at altitude, that hot towel is a godsend. It is a notable omission every single time I fly Qantas long-haul, especially when I find myself changing out of pyjamas and using a dry paper towel to try to blot as much grease off my face as I can in the loo. Very classy.

I also hate having to ask for things that are advertised as being included but not offered, especially as the request is often met with the feeling you're inconveniencing cabin crew asking for them. On a recent SQ trip, I asked for slippers, and despite the crew politely obliging, it was clear it was an unexpected, not particularly desired interruption. It also triggered a series of multiple other people asking for things one by one; whoops. Not to mention, taking this approach seems to result in not enough being stocked for all. That has become routine in UA Polaris --- ask for those PJs fast because there's never enough for everyone.

Controversial opinion perhaps but just proactively offer things or take Fiji's approach and dump them entirely.
