I'm in Osaka now but need to go to Narita on Tuesday to get QF22 home. Looks like a Jetstar fare to Narita is a similar price as the Shinkansen and avoids the hassle of changing trains and carrying luggage on the train (I didn't travel light enough to make train travel easy).

Am just wondering what GK on time performance is like. QF22 leaves at 2030. So I am looking at GK206 (dep 1600, arr 1725) - is that a sufficient connection time at NRT, as naturally I will have to collect bags and transfer terminals. Or should I pay an extra 2,000 yen and fly the earlier GK204 which departs KIX at 1440 and arrives 1605?

What about using the luggage forwarding service to send your bags from Osaka tomorrow (by 6pm) to Narita for Tuesday. Then catch the the shinkansen across?
I've done this often when I'm in Japan and find it quite convenient. I just pack a light day bag for the night I'll be without my luggage
Just a thought...
EDIT: In fact my plan may not work, I think they advise a two day turnaround when sending to an airport from memory.

I think it's ok from flight stats..I'm doing the same in reverse with nrt-kix then CX kix-hkg and have allowed about 3.5 hrs to connect which I think is ample.

I would feel relatively safe booking the 1725 arrival. The only delays I've really had with GK flights have been ice/snow related during the winter months. So I'd most likely book it if I weren't worried about waiting for luggage, transferring, and re-checking luggage. Of course, if you wanted to be safer you could book the earlier flight - it would give you that margin of error which might make the process less stressful.

Is JL significantly more expensive for the date/time you need? It would just eliminate luggage issues.

It could simply be that there's not that many domestic JL services that use NRT; HND is where it is at TOK wise.

It's up to a ninety minute transfer each way between NRT & HND for any reasonable price.

I have been looking at cough/TOK floor and my only realistic options are GK and NRT.

On Tuesday JL have 21 available services from Itami/Kansai to Haneeda/Narita - three go to NRT.

The two that arrive in NRT in time are costing ¥27000 when compared to around ¥14000 for HND.

Compare that with GK with costs of KIX-NRT at ¥11500 or thre now ¥16500 for the 1605pm arrival.

Shame you didn't pick up a JAL Yosoko fare before you left :(.
Only 10,800yen per sector when flying to Japan with a Oneworld airline.

Never heard of them before - that's great value. Otherwise I could have fit in KIX-TPE-NRT on CX with my oneworld award but decided to maximise time in Japan since its my first visit instead. Would have been funny though!

JL is more than double the price of GK, and their clunky website isn't even letting me book it (it claims no availability)
