I just need some advice
I flew lax to Texas rtn on AA and got no one world points, the reason was something to do with not code sharing.
I did fly with LAN from LAX to Peru and only got 20 points each way on a 10 hour flight.
I am planning a flight from LAX to Mexico return. Who can I fly with and how do I book it to ensure i get Qantas FF points?

are you sure you are not mixing up status credits with points on the LAN flight. isn't it one point per mile?

It's nothing to do with code shares. The cheapest fares on AA don't earn points.
See this link for fare codes which do earn points. Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

Well, that very link you were posting tells me that you get 0.5 points per mile on the really cheap fares and proper status credits regardless of the fare type.

In my experience, I've always even got a full point per mile even on super cheap fare categories regardless.

If any of that point earning is in contradiction to what's in the table (allowing that things change over time), then it sounds like you've been the beneficiary of a mistake(s).

Yep- I am aware of that ;)

I think I know what you mean. Did you book your flight with another airline and AA was the codeshare?

We flew with Alaska Airlines last year. 3 Legs. One leg was actually with Alaska Airlines - I earned points but no status credits on that flight. 2 legs were codeshare with American Airlines. However, as those flights were booked with Alaska and not American it was recorded as a codeshare flight that was not Qantas. That is referred to in the airlines earning table found on qantas.com. We did not earn status or points for these flights and we have definitely learned now not to book our flights that way. I assumed that because they were all airline partners and they asked for my ff number at the time of booking that I would earn. But never assume....

Booking directly through AA or through the Qantas website is what we will do in the future to ensure that we earn points and status with that particular airline.

Do you mean AS codeshare on AA metal didn't earn points?
Certainly AA codeshare on AS metal earns points and SC's for Qantas (providing the booking class is eligible).

We had similar experiences here. I flew AA in 2010 from LAX to either Omaha (via Denver) or to San Francisco [could not remember which city pair as the other airline was UA] and did not get any QFF point (hence neither status point]. I phoned QF and they said because I was on the cheapest Y fare code, hence no QFF point! I also flew with AS years before from LAX to Vancouver, again no QFF point (and no status point). They said because I booked via AS website with cheapest Y fare code, and not QF website where the fare would be higher! So, I lost out in both cases. Again last year we did a status run with AA from LAX to TPA (via DFW) - only did one way in YUPP. We then bought a cheap Y ticket with AA to fly from TPA back to DFW for a BA flight to LHR. And, got no QFF point (and no status credit).

It's too simplistic to state "book on QF to ensure earn". QF codeshare flight numbers are often more expensive than AA flight numbers for the same flight that will still earn points/SC's.

Any AA flight number in an eligible booking class (FAPJDIYBHKGLMNSV) will earn QFF points and SC's.

FWIW, common deep discount economy classes O & Q classes do not earn.

It is very easy to ascertain the booking class before completing your booking on AA.com.

My bad. I booked through AS for two AA metal flights (well one was American Eagle) and they didn't earn any status or points. The classes for the AA flights were M and L so that wasn't a factor.

Please tell me I'm wrong but my understanding is that the AA metal flights were recorded as a codeshare through AS and therefore points are not earned :?::?::?:

Taken from Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Fly - Airline Partners:

Points are not earned on codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Qantas.

I could really use the SC's if you think it is worth putting a claim for missing points in....

I agree that often the fare difference through different booking engines could be a determining factor for many. I can't recall how much AA were charging for the same flights through their website.

Travel on AA metal aircraft with AS flight number will earn points but not SC's. There is no mention of SC's for AS flight number.

Excluded: Points are not earned on Codeshare Flights operated by an airline other than Qantas.

Unless SC's are specifically mentioned against the marketing carrier in the table, they are not earned.

But doesn't the boldeed bit say an AS codeshare on AA will not earn points.

It really can be confusing. One I ran into was TN AKL-PPT.Mrsdrron travelled on the QF codeshare so earned QF points whil;st I was with the TN flight number to earn Aadvantage miles that I would not have on the QF flight number. No wonder people starting out on this journey have problems.

PS you can buy YUPPs through aa.com for AS even can give you an AS flight number-still full earnings for Aadvantage and then qualifies for QF points.

Want to use QFF points for instant upgrade fare (YUPP) on AA LAS to MIA via DFW I guess I have to book this through Qantas?, any idea to how many QFF points are required? and does it provide any Q status points?.

No chance! You can't even book that as an any seat award.

My advice is don't even think of using Qantas points for First class travel in the USA unless you have several million to burn.

LAS-xDFW-MIA can be purchased for USD761 one way and can earn 180 SC's. (You can go via Chicago for the same price and earn 240 SC's).

To book as a classic would cost 54,000 points and USD5.

Personally, I value a QFF point at more than 3¢ so that to me is very poor value.

More than that, the YUP via DFW would earn a WP 5430 QFF points and via ORD would earn a WP at least 6,700 QFF points.

Ok info I wanted will buy it instead.

So if we go via Chicago get double status points WOW I like that. How much travel time approx is LAS/ORD/MIA?

Yes will use El-Segundo method for AA bookings August and look for different sector flight No's to maximise points.

Will AA flights show up on my QFF page?.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
