When the sun hits it, it actually is.

I wonder how the artist got the detail required in the size needed. Did he get up and down a cheery picker constantly?

I also wonder what this local farmer thought, having to hold the stick for the portrait.

After sitting in the sun and wandering around the silo for about an hour, we made our way to tonights accommodation. But wait, are there two giant mallee birds made from roof sheeting across the road? Yes they is but sadly the clouds are now overhead so photos suck so will try again tomorrow.

Tonights accommodation is at the Patchewollock Hotel and a recently Reno's room is just what we needed after last night. Carpet, so new we took our shoes off and super quite aircon. I'm going to tell him that $50 per night is too little, compared to last night!

Tonight it's a locals 60th birthday, the outdoor wood heaters are fired up and the band is setting up.

So join the party :p

We have been invited, will wait and see but dinner is a definite yes. Where our room is, we're going to hear the band no matter what and it'll still be quiter than last night's ancient heater.

Great TR Denali. I've been enjoying Heather Ewart on Back Roads and that plus your TR makes me want to book our next trip at home in Oz to see and support some of our smaller towns.

As we drive through the smaller towns, a lot are dying or dead. One, even the pub was closed. So sad. I wonder what it's like, too invest in living there and people around you are either dying or leaving which means the services like medical also leave.

And I'm reminded how much small towns do for themselves, like volunteer ambulance officers.

Indeed Denali, my recent trip up to the Southern Flinders was sadly atmospheric because of the abandoned towns and homesteads.
In preparing my little talk for our family reunion , I was amazed at the population and the activity in early days where now there is nothing.

So pub dinner again tonight and it did not disappointment although had to laugh.

Server: Would yourself like chips with that?
Me, thinking mash might be on offer: What are the other choices?
Server: No chips.

So chips it is!

Our room at the Patchewollock hotel is very comfortable and still shocked we're only paying $50 for it, with ensuite. There are only two rooms with ensuite, the rest are shared . Would happily stay here again.

So tonight it's Uncle Simon's 60th, quite a large group of family have arrived to celebrate and stay the night, the pub is full, so full that we only got one towel as there's not enough.

We went to the bar to hand in our room key, the guy at the bar said he'll take it as he needed a nap, we found the publican instead.

Lascelle silo, maybe my least favourite as the artwork is too subtle but what a talented person. I wonder if this person's grandkids see this and think "that's really cool".

The wind is blowing a gale out here but the blue skies are worth it.

The Patchewollock hotel included a continental breakfast but it was a full night so we decided to not fight our way to the toaster and will hunt for breakfast elsewhere... Eventually arriving in Hopetoun.

My husband was getting pretty hangry by this point but he was soon his usual smiling self because he saw the magic words, Big Breakfast.

I liked the signage.

That is a big looking breakfast! I take it that his hat is the one from Scotland that causes so many comments when he wears it? I can see why now. :p:D

And that plate is missing the baked beans.

And yes, no comments about his hat in country Vic or SA, only nsw people pick on him for it :)

So now fueled up, we head to a Rosebery for our next silo and it doesn't disappoint. This artist is a former lawyer govt policy maker turned street artist.
