Next Jaisalmer Fort...

Jaisalmer Fort is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort. For the better part of its 800-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer (Wikipedia)

Given that this fort actually has thousands of residents living within the fort, it is perhaps not surprising that it gets a little crowded at times...

How long were you in Jaisalmar? Planning my own trip there ... Do you think you might have stayed longer?

So how long to stay in Jaisalmer? It's a relatively small town (Pop. 65,000).

We found the two nights, one full day worked for us but then again, we have no idea whether we covered everything or whether there was more to see; we just went where our driver and guide took us.

Rohat Garh

Google Maps suggests that the drive from Jaisalmer to Udaipur is 8 hours, 45 minutes. Of course that wouldn't allow for traffic delays.

Either way it's a little too far to cover in one day and we wouldn't have time for...well, you will have to wait and see.

So we stayed overnight at the Rohat Garh. Quite a nice hotel in many ways but somehow it didn't quite hit the spot after the last couple of places we had stayed....

Ranakpur Jain Temple

Between Rohat and Udaipur is the Ranakpur Jain Temple. It has approximately 1,444 marble pillars and every one of them cared differently. The carvings is this temple are outstanding, truly exquisite; the best we have seen on our trip.
