I've been trying to bite my tongue because this thread is degenerating by the hour, but I fail ....

A well known medico responded to that general (and more and more widely expressed) comment recently this way:
It is curious there were no persons with "genetic dispositions to be overweight" that were liberated after a few years in Belsen, Auschwitz, Changi etc. There were NONE.
Curious how a meagre minus diet managed to suppress that alleged gene.
Yeah - my grandfather was captured at Singapore and spent the entire war at Changi. He would have been your perfect passenger, ozstamps, as he was less than 40kg when released. Of course 90% of the other fatties didn't survive the diet, but nevermind.
Funny how many people
choose to be fat these days, what with the known health issues and hate-mail it generates. I am probably 5-10kg overweight and would rather not be, so I try to run/cycle a couple of times a week and reduce my dietary intake. I know it is a bit of an excuse, but I find this difficult due to a busy sedentary career and having a couple of young kids to organise. I am lucky that I have no medical or genetic factors against me, and my middle-class background meant that I had good nutritious food whilst growing up. Some people are not so lucky so I sympathise with those that struggle to reverse the damage. Our society sends very confusing messages about eating - bombarding us with fast food ads from a very young age and then telling us we shouldn't eat so much when we get older.
But could I contrast this with another major health issue - smoking. The evidence has been clear for quite some time that smoking is bad for your health in countless ways and will probably lead to an early and uncomfortable death. The only ads being shown (in this country at least) are graphically anti-smoking, and there are ever stricter laws about smoking in public areas.
And yet about 25% of the population
choose to pursue this pointless, expensive habit. Unbelievable!
So lets say we change the "No smoking" sign in the cabin to "No smokers" and make them take the bus. We will be doing them a favour as they are obviously too weak to help themselves, and there will be heaps of room on the plane to spread out and enjoy some space.
Maybe ozstamps could be in charge of a Cancertreating Camp where those smokers caught out trying to sneak aboard could be interred until they are cleared of any serious smoking-related illness (say 5-10 years).
Then again, why doesn't a moderator step in and terminate this increasingly offensive thread? Or is it only risquè language that is not allowed on this forum?
Cheers,
Andrew
