So I am just about sold on applying for a 'proper' AMEX.

Just wondering whether anyone would like to 'refer' me to the Platinum Reserve CC? According to this link, the referrer will get "up to 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points" and the 'friend' (me) up to 40k.

On a side note, can anybody confirm whether this 40k for me would be on top of the advertised "30,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points when you spend $500 on your Card in the first 2 months of your Card membership"?

Please PM me if interested and I will send you my name and email address.

Cheers,
jlm

This question is still open if anybody knows the answer

Not sure if you get these points in addition... But here is some food for thoughts:

Why not apply for the Platinum Charge Card, get 75,000 Points and then also apply for the free of charge Platinum Reserve and bank the extra points.

After they publish the news about the insurance reduction just call and have your membership fee reversed (cancelling the Charge Card).

:)

While that sounds fantastic, I think that might be risking my credit rating a little too much for the sake of points. :)

Are you sure it's that drastic? The charge card should not come up as a revolving credit line... essentially you dont even need to cancel, you can just downgrade to Gold or Green so it stays open! ;)

I'm not sure, no. I will look into it further.

Did you find out the answer to this?

I'd love a definitive answer, but FYI I just had a quick read of the T&Cs of both the referral bonus offer and the signup bonus offer (for a Plat Charge Card, not Plat Reserve CC) and didn't spot anything about each offer being exclusive of any other offers.

Did you find out the answer to this?
The referral email states:
You will receive 40,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $500 within the first two months of Cardmembership.
So I think it's safe to say the referral points bonus is instead of the sign-on bonus. More than happy to be proven wrong though! :P

Bugger. Maybe you could ask them once you signup? Can't hurt.
