General Medical issues thread

It seems like a Spanish Dancer is hard to beat.
Last week's CT scan showed a 6mm met in the L lung.
Onco has recommended NFA atm other than to change my CT schedule from 6 monthly to 4 months.
He doesn't think it worthwhile to put me through chemo side effects for one nodule and says if it gets to 10mm they can zap it.
Bummer. Hope it stays small and just the one! Take care. Time for coffee catch up in the new year?

Hope my friend doesn't read this thread.

Friend: "How is everything John?" Haven't seen him for 7 months
Me: "I'm ok but circulation in my legs has been very poor and I woke up this morning with this huge bruise on my upper arm."
Friend: "Hang on while I find something to whinge about"

This was before golf last week. I'm not sure what answer he was expecting but he obviously couldn't care less how I'm feeling. "Sorry to hear" may have been a better response from him.

Probably best to just shut up and don't trouble your friends.

You see, people dont really want to know all that; its just a turn of phrase as a greeting.

I went into a shopping centre with a splitting headache and used the checkout line as they dont have self serve. I didnt want to talk to anyone because even the thought of talking made me nauseous. I felt sorry for the operator who asked me how I was today. I told her I had a splitting headache and that even talking might push me too far. Im betting she didnt ask the next person the same thing.

Yes I do understand but true friends should care.

It's ok though. Expectation and friendship rating have been adjusted.

My generation had the jingle - time to turn so you won’t burn - no mention of sun screen or hats. And the timer they used was 30 minutes.
And you weren’t cool if you didn’t turn up at school on Monday with sunburn......

Hello all,

Just had my right knee arthroscopy yesterday. Still crook from anaesthetic <24 hrs ago, first time I've ever been sick from it. Surgeon said he found the two loose pieces of cartliage that he went in looking for, plus he repaired a torn miniscus (hope that's how it's spelt) so I am pleased that the severe pain was not all in my imagination.
Mr Clipped (a veteran of the same procedure before his eventual knee replacements) thinks I'm a phony - his zippers and robot knees beats my tiny keyholes that are currently hidden under a massive amount of dressing and Tubigrip.

I am enjoying the break from housework though 😁
I went in for an arthroscopy some years ago for what was going to be a bit of a look and maybe a minor stitch or two of something and woke up with a full ACL reconstruction. Apparently my surgeon phoned Mr FM while I was under and told him the ligament was broken and should they repair it. Mr FM wondered if anyone says no. :).

it healed quite well, but after a few months I took a phone call in the family room, needed something from my desk and ran up the stairs forgetting I couldn’t really do that, caught my foot on the top step and summersaulted into the entrance hall, coming down on my knee. That healed OK, but had a fair bit of pain in the knee that wasn’t going away.

Then had a fight with an obnoxious teenage Dr FM, she ran Into her room and slammed the door and I lent on the door, saying “ I haven’t finished talking to you” and tried to make it open. Knee went on me again (which resolved the fight as Dr FM was in tears at me getting hurt!). However when it all healed up again, no pain at all. Surgeon thinks there was scar tissue there causing stiffness and pain and I had sort of torn the scar tissue away, with long term benefits!

My skin is so fair I could stay in the shade all day and still be bright red. Did your parents put milk on the sunburn? All I remember smelling was sour milk on my skin. Goodness knows what they were thinking.

I have a similar story about teens and accidents . Friends of ours had a teenage daughter who went out on a Saturday night and well, drank. A lot. A taxi called the parents at home as he was a tad concerned. Father had already gone to bed with flu so it was up to Mum to sort out the daughter. Put the daughter on the couch downstairs and ran upstairs to get a quilt to cover her. As she came down the stairs in a hurry her foot caught in the quilt and she fell downstairs. Daughter by now was asleep and did not hear her scream in pain, nor the ambulance that took her to Hospital. She told husband to go back to bed and if there was surgery needed she would give her own consent. Well, she did have quite an operation overnight. Daughter woke up in the morning and was cranky because mum wasn’t there! Oh My! It took mum a very long time to recover both in hospital and at home and go through rehab. A bad break apparently.

No - all we did was either have a hot bath or a cold bath - one stopped the pain but meant you peeled and vice versa. 55 years later I can't remember which way round it was :)

Grateful to be born in OZ, now as a senior I recently had 35 days Radiotherapy on two large skin cancers that I should have has attended to long ago, finished 3 weeks back and both now healing very well, but I must say the care, attention and professionalism I received at the Cairns Public Hospital was simply astounding, from front desk to treatment, nursing advise, radiotherapy and Oncology Dr. it was nothing short of brilliant, cost was $0, yes the lucky country.
