Was that to go on a trial for a new drug for your father?
Hope he is at least comfortable and that the break heals. It seems it never stops at one thing.:(
His PSA levels are too low to be eligible for the trial at the moment. He has more energy and is eating well. But this is just follow ups for his fracture from a fall in hospital and his initial minor heart attack in June. Looks like he will beat his 6 months left they gave him in August!

Waiting at the Fracture Clinic today for over an hour.

First I hear, the Tartar Translator? Geez that is rare.

Then I hear "Max Power" is their a "Max Power"? Max Power a was pretty big bloke.

A few of us had a laugh to that Simpsons Reference.

Anyway Dad pelvis is good and mobility has increased. The bugger even went up the stairs the other week.

Meanwhile Mum's Cousin in law (Only 73) who we visited afterwards has only been given 3 months. I don't know not what his primary cancer is (Bit Secretive) but I could see yellow in his eyes indicating Jaundice and lumps on his arms.... :(

I could see his Son was already emotional before we came in.

I told him, get to Peter Mac or find some trial.

Mum told me the struggle he had in life. Lost both parents when young. Dirt poor. Raised by his Grandmother. Worn a girls dress till ten years old. No shoes till he was conscripted in the Army. I didn't really appreciate the stories of how my times my maternal Grandfather kept fellow relatives and villagers fed, till I took my Mum to her home country to visit relatives who kept praising my Grandfather.

It’s not 8 hours to Bali.
I just checked - it's only six hours in the plane to Bali from Melbourne.

Though they want us to be at the airport three hours earlier. Given we can't walk that far compared to what we used to be able to do (since it can take up to a year for the nerves in our backs to heal), it will definitely be a grind for us going through the airport queues.

Which reminds me, I had better start packing.

Renato

Tramadol - The Most Dangerous Drug?

I'm not sure what to make of this article.
Tramadol: The most dangerous drug in the world

It doesn't actually link to any statistics or paper that says Tramadol is a cause of death, it just implies such, by saying 28000 people died of opiods.
And it says dumb stuff like Tramadol is almost as good as Oxycodone, when it is nowhere near as good.
Cheers,
Renato

As if we don't already have enough problems. Dad has been struggling. He really needs this heart operation but they only schedule a few of these operations due to funding.

Very sad to hear this John.

Can't recall when I last posted in here.

Operation went well, last week. I had a bimaxillary osteotomy with 4 wisdom teeth removed for good measure. Still have a numbness from my lower eyelids to my chin, with my lower jaw and lip tingling like you wouldn't believe. It's been a week mind you. Spent 2 nights in hospital, didn't eat for 2 days and am still only on liquids. Most of the day I'm very weak/light headed.

I have a daily chemical coughtail of antibiotics, anti-inflammatorys and painkillers as needed, and they all bloody come in pill form, which is not fun as my teeth are wired shut. I even had to swap my epilim (for epilepsy) to a syrup that can be poured down my throat!

Not that I'm going to post a photo, but my face is slowly turning a lovely shade of yellow as the bruising appears from my cheeks to my neck. Probably look like I have jaundice.

One of my heavy drinking relies has had a growth cut off his bladder. Now we are waiting for pathology to assess the removed tissue.

Just OUCH!

Good luck with that one. Mind you, my father had a similar issue at 65 and rarely drank alcohol and never smoked. I guess you know the result and it wasn't good.

That sounds painful - hope you get over the discomfort soon and don't loose too much weight.

I hope to not be posting in this thread for personal reasons for about the next 35 years.

Had to look that up to see what you had done -sounds very painful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I was on some pretty good drugs immediately afterwards so felt nothing. Most annoying thing is that because parts of my face are still numb, I still feel nothing, whereas knowing where my bottom lip is would be useful for keeping food and liquids in my mouth! :p

I looked that up and I would have to say you are a brave man and much braver than me. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Scariest bit was probably day of, wheeled into the room next to theatre to go through various things and they said I could be wheeled in or I could walk in (as I would need to change beds). So I opted to walk in and the fear of the unknown at that point is so strong, but I'd already paid a whopper for the surgery and hospital fees so I knew it was inevitable, no escape.

They said they were going to give me a sedative, I remember staring up at the big lights and then the next thing I know I'm in a hospital bed and my partner is by my side, something like 4 hours later.

It's nothing like I thought it would be, extreme pain etc. I was on strong pain relief with a button in my hands that I could press for instant relief, however I mostly didn't use it. That said, my face is still regaining feeling.

I look forward to eating soft tasty foods in a week, like mashed potatoes smothered in mayo and butter, scrambled eggs, roast pumpkin, etc. I look forward to alcohol in a couple weeks (assuming I can't mix it with meloxicam now). I look forward to eating something harder in 6-8 weeks, even something basic like felafel, which I got a whiff of the other day and made me so happy and sad at the same time. I look forward to a semi-regular diet in 3-4 months. And I look forward to getting my braces off in a year and finally being able to eat really hard foods that have been off limits for the last 18 months. Long way to go yet!

Sounds painful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and hopefully your teeth being unwired soon.

I believe unwiring is next week if progress meets the surgeons expectations, but I still have braces on that won't be in action for 6-8 weeks and as my jaw heals I'm very restricted to soft foods otherwise I could get scar tissue apparently.

In case anyone is wondering, the surgeon was featured on 60 minutes not too long ago for being one part of a duo who restored sight to a man with his tooth.
