General Medical issues thread

Fracture clinic appointment at 13:10, in at 13:15, cast off, sent for x-rays, back, waited maybe 15 minutes outside and another 15 minutes in a cubicle, and now sporting a thumb spica aircast, need an MRI though as something is not quite right.

All in all, quite impressed, especially considering how long I waited last time, I was well prepared this time with newspaper, magazines and lap top. Still wouldn't want to work in a hospital.
And how is it now? Hopefully better?????

I was getting pretty annoyed with AlphaPharm for running out of my heart medication for 6 weeks ..........

Cove, are you sure it is the drug company and not the chemist. I have been on a certain medication for my heart since I was 24. The chemist I was using said they were having problems getting it, and I could have the generic brand. I don't do generic brands so I tried another chemist, and lo and behold I have not had a problem since, so we now get a better service and NO hassles at our new chemist :D

Sounds like something we should all remember.

Had an MRI on Friday, don't know the results as they only send them to the Doctor, previously I've been able to log on and read results, this is at the new extension to the private hospital at Woden.
Nurse was very terse, I think she had been having issues all morning with patients not keeping still, including me.
So fracture clinic tomorrow afternoon, I'll be well prepared again just in case there is a delay.

We have had a chemist claim the same thing as well - though as long as the medication is not like a horse pill in size MrLtL is happy with a generic.

Fingers crossed then Cossie!

I tried more than a dozen pharmacies and have called AlphaPharm 4 times. I have about 10 days left and my niece who is a pharmacist has just found some that her drug rep has located. I really don't want generics either as it took me 6 weeks to get used to this new medication not that long ago.
Two pharmacies offered an equivalent drug but I don't want to get to go thru another body adjustment period seeing we are traveling in a fortnight.

For 2 of my CT scans the onco has asked for the films which is a PITA as it means I have to go back and collect them the next day. I attend Canberra Imaging Group, as they have a bulk bill deal with the hospital. When they produce films they don't put the results online as a matter of course. However if I call them they will put them up, so I can read.

Thanks for that info, I'll give them a call when I finish here. I'm currently waiting at the fracture clinic, I believe they are about an hour behind, I had problems getting a parking spot, couldn't even get one in the staff area using the boss's work pass.

Not good news, there is still a non-displaced fracture which only showed on the mri. So another 4weeks in a brace. :(

I was getting pretty annoyed with AlphaPharm for running out of my heart medication for 6 weeks until I read that another company had short supplied a cancer medication for several months.
These companies seem to be pretty relaxed about doing this.

I can understand your grievance with this cove. I don't have any problems with accepting Sandoz ramipril in lieu of tritace to keep my BP under control.

However if my chemo was unavailable I'd have a real problem, as pharmacies just don't stock it, due to cost ($$$$ before PBS) and low usage. If the Australian supplier (Novartis) had run out there is no other source as its still under patent. I should re-order it at 21 day intervals rather than just wait until a couple of days before I run out.

For a slightly different medical issue, one of our fur babies came down with Haemorrhagic diarrhoea yesterday - very scary. Mad rush to the emergency vet at Fyshwick. She was transferred by pet ambulance to a normal vet today and will go back to the emergency hospital tonight. If all goes well - we might get her back tomorrow.....

Was it ARH Canberra?. Near the officeworks?
Could You please give a review of your experience there?

Oh that's not good FM . Hope she is much better today. It's always a worry when one of the 'family' is ill (and animals do fit into that category I believe).

Daughter had to take one of her cats there a few months back. From memory the consulting vet was someone she had trained with at Sydney Uni (she did Vet Sci but does not practice) and she was happy with the standard of treatment received.

They said this morning that she was responding to treatment, although still needed to be on a drip to hydrate until symptoms stopped. Yes absolutely one of the family :). Her brother has been pretty miserable all day and making a pest of himself.

What a pain (literally) for you Cossie. How many weeks will that make it now? It probably feels like forever to you.:(

Yes that's the one. We have used them a few times, as our dogs always seem to get sick after hours! (Just like kids). We have always been very happy with them. Care is professional and the staff are always nice and friendly. Seem to have quite young vets, but never had a problem with knowledge or diagnosis.

They have a steady stream of people coming in, but we have never waited very long.

They always encourage you to phone and get an update if you have to leave your pet.

7 weeks, the doc said I'm 2/3rds way through! Pain in the bum as there are so many things I can't do, like clean gutters and air blow the roof, change the oil in my car, ride my bike (nah, don't ever do that anyway!)!

We are off again next week, so maybe the brace is better than a cast.

It seems to be a good place for young vets to get experience before setting up their own place.
I've had good experience from their main one in Auburn NSW. They are apparently also building branches in Gosford and QLD

Feet are freezing in office. There must be a draft under the desk. Top of the left foot is very sore from the cold.

Cant always blame the public hospital for wait times.Public holiday in QLD today and I have just done an 8 hour Outpatient session and despite people being rung on Friday and Sunday and saying they were coming one didn't attend-though that is less than usual.
