General Discussion/Q&A on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dexamethasone has been reported in the UK to in serious patients reduce the mortality rate :

In one study, the drug cut the risk of death by a third for Covid-19 patients on ventilators and by a fifth for those on supplemental oxygen.

So some more emerging evidence about the virus.
First it was almost certainly present in Europe in December 2019 with evidence now from Italy added to the french reports.Sewerage began showing virus particles in Milan and Turin effluent on 18/12/19.

Next evidence that the viral mutation found in Europe and the USA is more infective than the Wuhan strain of the virus.

Cancer researchers come up with more targets for a vaccine.

And the NIH is setting up a collaborative effort to learn more about Covid to predict things such as who might develope severe disease and are different treatments have specific areas that they might be more effective in treating.

Diabetes and obesity was thought about right at the beginning and it still seems to be one of the highest risk factors.

More on treatment of Covid.
First with Dexamethasone. What wasn't said was that if given to patients that didn't need oxygen therapy the trend was to an increased mortality rate.

And since then there is a worry that supply might not keep up to demand especially with the injectable formulation which is necessary for the most severe cases being ventilated. And this is the group with the best results.

Back to hydroxychloroquine.note that image above also gives the result of their trial with this drug which ended the hydroxychloroquine story.but the increase in mortality first of all didn't reach statistical significance.but more importantly was the dosage of hydroxychloroquine used.2400mg in the first 24 hours. This is a massively toxic dose and 6 times the recommended dose to avoid cardiac toxicity.some medical commentators are now using the word negligence.

But a new drug-one of the biologicals.

It has been previously reported that it seemed more males than females seem to suffer the worst of the effects of the virus and now I see reports that more bald people suffer than those who are more hirsute. Theories being postulated it may have something to do with hormone imbalance in ageing males effecting the immune system deleteriously.

So watch out if you are old male and bald(ing)

One of the mabs. I understand supply is tricky.

I've just come to the realisation that COVID 19 is almost perfectly tailored to news cycles.
First report; "New cases detected"
Second report" Many new cases detected"
Third report " Premier forecasts harsh measures due to new cases detected"
Fourth report" Explosion of new cases blamed upon.... (insert villain here)"
Fifth report" Delays in re-opening AFL blamed upon.... (insert villain here)"
RESET: Totally inconsequential report; Bill Shorten videoed feeding seagulls..?
First report; "New cases detected"......

Many drugs are now being investigated for possible benefit in the treatment of Covid 19 including cough and Thalidomide. Some common drugs such as statins and brufen seem to help as well but they are from observation trials not a trial setting out to use those drugs for benefit.Observation trials are regarded as less accurate.

The USA is now investing in better tests.less invasive but also rapid answers getting down to 15 minutes. They are now testing 400K to 900K per day.

As well the border crossers rounded up by ICE now are segreagated for 14 days and offered testing.

With more extensive use of antibody testing the CDC now thinks actual cases could be 10 times the official count.

And more evidence that Covid 19 is more persistent than SARs or MERs.

And another -mab that seems effective in treatment.

Surprise surprise. As we generally all knew we were soLs a pup but they refused to be honest with the public.

I thought I heard it had only detected one case where normal tracing had not similarly picked it up. But if people won't download then of course it won't work. Not sure that's the apps fault though.

Unfortunately the problem is that the app is basically useless. (And govt tech advisors knew it but they persisted with the falsehood to make people think they had a solution.)
