General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

And in the US (population 331 million), it’s reported that:

- 317 million doses have now been administered
- 148 million people are now fully vaccinated.
Those numbers concern me.Basically 50% of eligible folk have been fully vaccinated using 296 million shots.
But it means only another 21 million have had a first shot or less than another 10% of the total.Obviously slowing up..

IIRC, it’s not quite as simple as that due to the use of the J&J vaccine which only requires a single shot.

I think I read late last week that about 12m J&J doses had been administered. So if that figure is correct, that’s 136m fully vaccinated using Pfizer or Moderna therefore 272+12 m shots for full vaccinations. Therefore another 33m have had a first shot. Not that really changes the story you were telling …

The J&J single-dose is included in there. Production issues have resulted in only about 12 million people being fully vaccinated with that.

Daily jabs are now running at about 1.18 million per day (7-day average), so have dropped off from the highs of April.

Edit: Beaten to it. 😉

There’s also going to be that ‘not for me’ sector in the final call in the US. And it’s a bit of a guess as to how many that will be at this stage.

I predicted things like this would happen.

Many scoffed when I said because I'm a frequent traveler to USA I wanted to make sure i had a US approved vaccine, I wont be at all surprised if we see entry to not only events but also certain counties be contingent on an approved vaccine.

WHO emergency use approved wont cut it everywhere, some places will insist on a higher standard at least until Covid circulation drops to immaterial levels everywhere.
I predicted this. And I predict the WHO Chinese approved vaccines will also not cut the mustard. Will the Australian Govt depart from WHO approvals, or let the education sector die? My humble opinion is AZ, 3month interval, and 1 month for good luck, should be fine, bar SA strain. Another good reason why Canada let mix n match with mRNA booster., even though reactions were elevated. Now how will this apply to Quarantine?

Within 9 months likely we will be needing a booster. Likely it will be mRNA. I don't see the issue with AZ then Pfizer booster being an issue anywhere and just maybe science might just show the mix might give the more robust response anyway.

Germany's vaccine advisory bodies has recommended only children with pre existing illness be vaccinated for Covi.

Moderna has signed an agreement for it's vaccine to be manufactured in Saudi Arabia,

Apparently in Victoria it's running at about 25% paid. I guess they will follow the rest up, eventually.

Doubt it. It will be all written off, you watch.

In QLD there is over $52,000,000 of HQ prison fees alone that people are refusing to pay, before we even get onto the fines.

Chinese vaccines just don't seem to cut the mustard.

This has been known for quite some time

Meanwhile NZ has approved Pfizer for 12-15s:

Less than a week after the WHO said chidren and adolescents should not be vaccinated.

And the German Vaccine Advisory group suggests only children and adolescents with disabilities should be vaccinated.

Possibly just as well NZ has a no fault accident compensation system which does cover treatment incidents.

I always feel the WHO looks to make recommendations to benefit poorer nations, so they don't want to see wealthy nations vaccinating kids, whilst they are still trying to vaccinate older people in the developing world.

Plus WHO has form in making ridiculous recommendations. Case in point, last week WHO said ALL women of child bearing age should refrain from any alcohol consumption because it might impact ability to conceive. Such a misogynist guideline, that fails to consider that not all women want to have kids and that alcohol also impacts male fertility. More faceless men trying to control women's bodies.

Families with children want to be able to travel too, its crazy to not cater for all age groups.

Sounds more like a Religious inspired group.

The UK has released an updated list of possible Pfizer side effects.Includes 421 deaths soon after a Pfizer jab. Some probably coincidence.
But also more cases of myocarditis/pericarditis.

And the CDC cobfirms that myocarditis/pericarditis after Pfizer jabs is well over expected cases.

And looks like the Pfizer vaccines is having trouble dealing with the Delta variant

Article said 12 fully vaccinated people tested positive, but not that there were unwell. The vaccines are meant to stop serious illness nothing in that article says they dont.

Much greater than 50% of population need to fully vaccinated to stop community spread, so seeing spread amongst unvacinated teenagers at school isnt surprising. Young people need to be vaccinated too and havent been yet.

As a 30 year old in the UK my son has only just had his first Pfizer so likely very few teenagers have had one vaccination. I'd suggest it shows that the vaccine is actually working well to protect the older ones. His second vax isn't until August but think they are bringing the gap forward now. Their original intent was for as many people to at least have one vax and even though Pfizer, spread that out to 8 weeks.

No one better tell The Age/SMH/Courier Mail/Herald Sun etc etc etc

I know it has been well covered here, but the CDC advice is below and may be useful to anyone. I've been doing a little research ahead of my second dose tomorrow afternoon (I'm right around the target category for this condition so just planning ahead to know what to expect)
