Gen Y doesn't care about Qantas

Don't think the title is correct but they are "less" care about QF:

SURVEY: Generation Y don't care about Qantas | News.com.au

DJ is probably perceived as the funky option anyway.

Surely this could be Gen Y don't care about <insert anything that isnt Hedonistic>..

But more on topic, if this is even Remotely true, this is a problem for QF, not only does the article indicate this is a generation more prone to International travel, but they are also the future market.

So will we soon start hearing "HEY GUYS, this is your Captain, but don't think of me as a captain, im more like a facebook friend, and remember to LIKE my pilotting on this flight as you twitter off the plane..."

What a Crock! I'm 20 and I care about QF. The fact that the board of directors haven't taken any decisive action to a) remove the little leprechaun and b) reinvigorate the brand are reason why I choose to not fly the Roo.

The product is old and out of date and little attempt has been made to make it appealing. I look at VA and see hey, they have a good atmosphere about them and they know what guests expect. Where as QF play catch up with all the other airlines instead of showing true Aussie strength and initiative making the Australian flag carrier a chosen product by the rest of the world.

A radical face lift needs to happen, do as Virgin and Emirates and ensure you have a standard product across the fleet and offer more in terms of loyalty and retainment to valued customers.

Thats my 2c

No sample size so they likely just asked the grads or interns in the office...

Gen-Y bashing? (yawn) so 'like' over it :)

When I was 20 I didn't care or want to know much other than what was happening Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. I doubt much has changed in the past 25 years or 50+ for that matter.

The 'backpacker market' (which I think what the article is really about) are generally (and again generalising) looking to save money on transport/acccomodation so they can spend more on experiences/food/alcohol etc.... and are fairly risk tolerant so care less about maintenance/pilot standards etc.

QF just doesn't target this market.
VA/DJ is also moving out of it.

JQ is Qantas's Youth brand

Actually it's Gen Y bashing and QF bashing in the one article... double win... :D

Basically I read this as an article which says

"We at news limited think today's a slow news day, and given QF haven't even had a blocked toilet of late that we could report on we needed something to run where we can legitimately put the QF logo over the front page of our websites with a negative sounding title"

I used to be Gen-Y, and then it was all qantas pretty much. School trips, footy trips, you name it qantas was the one. Haven't they now got it wrong!:(

Are you sure that statement is true for either of those airlines?

How can you "used to be Gen-Y"? Either you are or you not, unless you've found a way to move the date of your birth.

It depends on the sociological basis that you use, some sociologists have gen Y starting in 1979, others in 1980. I also seem to remember that before the metrosexual wagon rolled around men you used beauty products (not just de-odourant) were classed as a "new Generation".

And can we please stop referring to Alan Joyce as the leprechaun. Its getting rather tired and frankly inaccurate. According to this thread (http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/playground/how-tall-is-alan-joyce-34076-2.html) he is at least 3'6" taller than your average leprechaun (How tall is a leprechaun?? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers). Its also a bit racist. its as lazy as saying that all aussies are surf bums who watch neighbours and home and away.

Sorry, I mean't when I was younger.:) Google GEN Y then google GEN-X.

With regards to product yes, it amazes me how you all expect VA to one day say lets go J and then the next day have every aircraft in the fleet changed. I have read that thread and it continually amazes me the amount of times I have had to bite my tongue on that thread. When you fly Emirates you know what to expect and you know that they will bendover backwards to assist.

I never made mention of any expectations regarding the DJ product. Simple fact is that the product at this point in time is not consistent.

As for EK - check the number of different J products on their fleet of 777's.

*Add to that the differences in seat pitch in Y. Not a good example to use.

Simply put, both the airlines you have mention do not have a consistent product...

18-24 is only a younger subset of gen Y so I'm not sure it's accurate to say that gen Y don't care about Qantas. Would be interesting to see what us older gen Ys think.

Wow a no news story slanted against QF!!!? Must be a first. Oh wait...
Move on.
