We have just booked early to go to South Australia for the AFL Gather Round next year.
So we organized a group, booked flights and accommodation this afternoon.
All frequent flyer points with QF and IHG points for accommodation because we got in early.

Yes it would be perfecto - don’t need to name names they know! 👍

Just to clarify dates Thu Apr 4 to Sun Apr 7

Yes we are flying in on April 3rd and leaving on April 8th. Booked our group into Crowne Plaza. So pretty good use of Qantas points and IHG points.
The Crowne Plaza in Frome Street is pretty close to the east end of Rundle Mall and near lots of eating places.

I am in ADL and would be happy to join any party. For the record I have no idea what an AFL Gather Round is and before anyone starts I may have spent most of my adult life in MEL and ADL but I still do not follow AFL. I am a born and bred SYD and follow the the other 2 codes being "the Gentleman's game that coughs play" and "the coughs game that Gentleman play". As the dates are around the school holiday period I just checked my flights for next year and at present am flying out on 11/4 so I should be around.

The media showed how much hotel prices were jacked up hugely for gather round this year. Best get in early. Easter is the week before.

I will be in Malaysia during this period :)

What is AFL?
Some weird game originating in Victoria that the southern states seem obsessed with, but no one else in the world plays.

What is Gather Round? 🤨🤪
An idea lifted from the NRL's playbook aka Magic Round.

Both Magic/Gather Round best avoided - except that there might be cheap flights out of state for those wanting to avoid rabid footy fans.

I would vote for the the AFF weekend not being during school holidays nor when there is a major event on to keep more affordable.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't follow sportsball but am in favour of AFF gatherings to liven up Adelaide

Ok it is AFL football at various ovals around Adelaide including out in the Barossa wine country.
It was quite a success this year and we were not there. Adelaide is a city that still works pretty well when we visit for work so I like it.

Average number of attendees at home-and-away and finals games:
AFL - 32,620 per match
NRL - 17,121 per match

Number of members:
AFL - 1.19 million
NRL - 320,000

Maybe no-one else outside of Australia plays Aussie Rules, but we have enough at home to get by :)

Not last time. It was pretty much Adelaide based. Likely Barossa next time though.

Adelaide in March and April was crazy this year. We don't need living up around then. July? Yup.

What fantasy? I care not for any type of sportsball, but my post was factually correct. Lots of reasons i may visit Adelaide, footy of any type will never be one of them.

When the Olympics were on in Sydney flights out were cheaper than flights in, i took advantage of that. I imagine those who like me have zero interest in a bunch of dudes playing aerial ping pong would also prefer to leave rather than be inundated by hoards of AFL fans.

If anyone is in town for this weekend or around this timeframe and would like to catch up for lunch or dinner please reach out. If schedules align happy to catch up, I am flying out of ADL on 10/4.

i think the details have been released over the weekend. We have one son living in Adelaide and so we can stay next door in the Crowne Plaza. They do run a happy hour at Crowne and it has lots of eating places nearby Frome Street.
