With basically all my travel cancelled until next year.. I have no chance of getting WP... I will be lucky to get PS

Customers shouldn't have to need to resort to VPNs or other "tricks" to do things to earn points imo.

This is the catch with any non home country program without much local opportunities where you are (SQ has a few options in Oz and probably NZ though not sure and UA has their Aus shopping site-but miles do not expire so not an issue, but many other foreign programs it's going to be a problem, just as for QFF members living outside of Australia(and maybe NZ) without easy opportunities. then if their points expire because they have had no chance to earn that's not very fair imo.

and that was what I was getting at. Extending status is one thing and QF have been great at that but if you're stuck in say the US or UK or something and have no easy way to earn points, and 18 months will be coming up, if not reached, for many then it will be an issue I reckon.

This was on Google Play Store. Apple may work differently. Might try my Ipad-- not working also.
Assuming you downloaded the App before leaving Aus, you may find it is saving you movements in the background and MAY update when you next return to Aus.

Are you suggesting the points won't be credited until you get back to Australia?

Would using QF branded credit cards purchases overseas work? Say QF AMEX or QF St. George or something ? I usually use my QF AMEX Ultimate when I shop in India. Granted, I pay $1 or so extra, but that's alright with me.

A meal for 2 adults at Chennai KFC set me back by INR 500, which is roughly $10 and I think with the forex fee it was around $10.50 .. nets me atleast 15 QF points

Now, if the overseas customer don't have any AU QF branded CC then the way to go would be the Wellness App or transfer points between family members once every 18 months ... say send the minimum transfer limit points to partner or children and after 18 months send it back from their partner or children account to themselves :) This ping-pong should keep both source & target accounts active :)
Family transfer of points is excluded. But I had forgotten about a Qantas points credit card. Even if you used it only once a year, that would keep you legal. 3% overseas transaction feee, but only a minimum spend is needed.

Correct; and of course there are a number of other ways one could earn some points while outside of Aus: book a hotel, transfer some hotel points, book a rental car, purchase a new bag tag, buy some wine as a gift for family/friends (or another AFF member!), etc.

(or another AFF member!)
Love that bit :D If anyone needs my deets, private message me please :p I love Pinot Noir and or Riesling, but I'm also open to accepting all kinds of wines :p

Didn't know this. Thanks for the info

How about QFF consider something for the Life Time Status members that are unable to maintain the (higher) status level to which they have become accustomed?
A QFF member with life time status should be permitted to obtain the next higher status level on the basis of obtaining the RENEWAL level number of status credits. eg
LTS could obtain annual Gold status with 600 SC
LTG could obtain annual Platinum status with 1200 SC

Does someone with QFF employment still read the Qantas threads on AFF?
Or is this a new level for me with wandering
Fred

QFF members in NZ can earn flying JQ in NZ or through Qantas hotel booking.

However neither of these is helpful for P1 requal since 2700 SCs must be on QF and JQ does not count.

Earning points in the USA is easy and generally a reasonable deal. Fly a sector on AA.

This is true, though some people may be hesitant to fly their local OW (or EK/other QF partner) airline right now.

Qantas Shopping includes stores that can be purchased from for worldwide delivery such as Ebay, so purchasing something at even a dollar would earn a Qantas Point, and should keep the account active. It does seem to take about three months or so for the Qantas Points to credit, so you need to buy something well in advance of the 18 month expiry date.

Amex in the UK (and maybe other countries abroad) have Qantas as a Membership Rewards partner, so it is possible to earn Qantas Points via credit card spend.

It's a bit of a no brainer really imo. that there will be an extension of one sort or another. I mean Blind Freddie (that's me) could have a fair guess that more would happen. Sign of the times. I think most would be surprised if there was NOT something at this point.

so really I think folks just need to hold tight and it will sort itself out. After all I am sure we all have bigger things to worry about in our lives right now than if status will be retained or about a possible downgrade or something. After all if nobody is able to fly anywhere status is not much help is it?

Looking forward to the days when this doesn't have to be a thing. Maybe 2026? :p
Just in time for the next Pandemic!

Just had an interesting conversation with a Plat agent on the phone. Having to re-arrange flights (a status run) due to cancellations, possibly cancel itinerary. In the course of converstaion, was told "status extentions likely due to current lockdowns" - was more than that, but that was the gist. Sounded like a very well informed agent, confident in what they were saying.

Make of it what you will!!

Excellent service on the Plat line, BTW and I got a better routing - I did the survey and gave 5, 5, 1.

Well that's not inline with the spirit of things, maybe the lockdowns are starting to mess with your mind. Status retention and heaven forbid receiving a complimentary downgrade are of the utmost importance, I suggest that you head over to the AFF Confessional thread and ask forgiveness :p:p:p
