looking forward to the body scanners but not to the liquid restrictions.

Why?

They don't work, aren't needed and are a complete waste of time and money. There is absolutely no reason for them.

This type of scanner should be banned due to extreme unreliability.

On every single occasion I have passed through one of the millimetre wave scanners (more than 50 times and without exception), I have recorded a false 'positive' reading and then had to be 'touched up' by the security staff. Not once did I have anything on my body that could of caused the false reading (except light clothing of course).

Liquid ban would suck big time!

Liquid ban is a nonsense on domestic. But mention ‘security’ and we all have to shut up. Even when it’s not thought through. Has the risk increased? Just listening to the radio now about it. All it will do is help retailers sell stuff on the other side. Pity those who aren’t members of clubs having to fork out money for just a drink of water. And it creates a big enough pfaff with liquids at International terminals let alone domestic ones. And great inconvenience for those people just dropping off and welcoming people back. Overnight travelers with toiletries on a quick trip interstate. Bah. It’s stupid.

You will understand when you have a metal joint.
Very much easier for me than the Xray and being wanded + a pat down every time you catch a flight.

Broadly speaking, it'd have to be a nonsense on both or neither. The explosive doesn't care whether it's on a domestic A330 or an international B737.

If you're referring to non-flying pax going airside, that could feasibly end up being banned or restricted too eventually. Also Mandatory Photo ID for Domestic Air Travel.

Overnight travelers with toiletries on a quick trip interstate.

Overnight travellers are unlikely to struggle under the existing international LAG restrictions. If they're using a litre of toiletries overnight that would be ... interesting :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just my personal opinion, but if the procedures in security in whatever airport cause you affront, you should be so thankful that the rest of your trips are so smooth.

Don't mind the full body scanners. If I can keep all my stuff in my bag too, that'd be nice.

Would dislike non-travellers being stopped from entering the sterile zone. If the security is so good, I'm unsure what the risk is. It's one of the nicer things about flying in Australia...

End of the day, I guess an airport/airliner is an attractive target, however if you look at where else one can walk in to with literally *anything*, it starts to look pretty secure :)

Considering restrictions on powdered baby formula. Cant take it through but we can sell it to you on the other side for $100 a can. Your $1 500ml bottle of mouthwash you can buy on the other side for $10

It’s the packaging that’s involved not the quantity inside ;)

Reckon there won’t be much joy if they banned people entering but not flying not that this would actually bother me.

As far as security goes, I’m not convinced given the inconsistent application at different airports. Fine with the body scanner, have had it at Adelaide domestic a few months ago.

Way more damage could be caused at an airport well before these security checks come into place.

Waste of time.

You can't take a 500mL bottle of water with you but you can take 5 x 100mL bottles of water as well as an empty 500mL bottle of water?

Yep I really feel safe now.

Can only hope that the technology continues to improve beyond the current stop-and-stand scanners.

Last time I went through one it detected something on my (uncovered) neck. Security were obliged to ask "Are you wearing a necklace or something?" Very hard to fight the urge to eye roll ...

Ok, I'm not familiar with that issue :)

I recall in one US airport they had bins for disposal of unopened liquids - to be donated to their troops. Erm, the liquids are being confiscated because of a possible explosive risk ... and they're going to be sent en masse to the troops?

In Japan when we accidentally brought water through the screening point they took the bottle and placed it on a machine I've never seen before, then moments later gave the all clear. No idea how effective the machine is within those 2-3 seconds.

Fair point.

I'd probably support it if it would have a meaningful impact on queues (but it probably wouldn't). Indifferent otherwise.

People might start liking landside lounges if it happens :)

Good point and if you did put it in 100ml bottles how would they even know that it is water in the bottle it might be a nice Asolut

Well there you go then. And you wonder why people are sceptical.

There is security and there is pointless nonsense that distracts from real security.
The vast majority of changes to aviation "security" over the last 16 years, including the body scanners, liquid limits, ID checks, and in certain areas shoe removal, have been the latter.

I only saw that drink donation initiative in one airport and obviously wasn't able to take a photo of it. Wonder who came up with the idea.

The strange afterlife of banned TSA items - The Washington Post

The liquid and aerosol substances are destroyed, for instance. At Newark, they are stored in a small shed surrounded by tall reeds and sparse trees. Inside, several blue canisters hold the materials, which the employee separates by type (explosive, flammable gas, etc.). A contractor eventually hauls it away.

After completing his rounds at the airport, I followed Markasyan to the disposal station. He barely glanced down as he chucked the stuff. I silently shed a tear for three bottles of Ron Barceló rum that would never see a coughtail glass or summer sunset.

Other items are sold at bargain prices ("about 50 to 65 percent lower than listings on eBay or at standard retail stores").

Commonly called "security theatre".

Harms of Post-9/11 Airline Security - Schneier on Security claims that additional US airport security measures cost their economy around $10 billion per year (due to 19.5 minutes of extra waiting time per person), and moreover "increased automobile deaths due to people deciding to drive instead of fly is 500 per year".

Or Smirnoff. I put the vodka in those miniature 50mL bottles.
