There has been much discussion of this over at FT-
Rumor: New benefits for Platinum and Gold, incl. breakfast - FlyerTalk Forums

This morning I got a targetted survey from SPG listing as one of the benefits of membership-free breakfasts at all SPG properties. At least 1 other on FT got this survey and confirmed the presence of this statement.
Will go down very well even though at most of the properties we stay at it already is supplied.

It would seem hotel loyalty is moving up a notch.

Now, I wonder if InterContinental Priority Club might offer something remotely tangible to their top tiers. Say, I dunno, a cup of water for Platinums.

CP Terrigal gave me an upgrade (2 rooms) to an ocean view from a city view room on an award stay:p. Also gave me a voucher for a free drink and newspaper but I think these are for ALL PC members, not just Plat members; a good start I guess:mrgreen::shock:

$130/night at CP Darwin with breakfast last month, got upgrade to Suite but unfortunately had to decline as we needed 2 beds. Complimentary bottle of red wine waiting in the hotel for us (forgot to take it with us though!) - priced at $30 at the restaurant.

I get free Mini Bar, club or suite upgrades, guaranteed 4PM checkout and 8 AM checkin, that's pretty good.

I completely agree but isn't Royal Ambassador like Qantas Platinum One (ie. a super level that's above the top tier)?

it's comparable to SPG Plat or Hilton Diamond in terms of qual, PC Plat is not.

But much harder to get unless you are offered to be referred by an existing RA.

Also, those bennies are only guaranteed at IC's - HI, CP's et all, you are guaranteed status bonus points only.

Not harder to get at all, so long as you have done 30 nights in ICs and at least three different ICs, as for the benefits you are also getting Plat status with its benefits.

It really IS harder (and generally more expensive) to get than HHD or SPGP.

Those thirty nights must be at Inter-Continental Hotels.

28 stays with Hilton or 25 stays with SPG will earn top tier - those stays can be at any of the respective hotel families (such as Hampton Inns or Holiday Inn Expresses).

I use stays, not nights, as they are the LCD's.

As for ICH PC Platinum, it may be possible to earn without actually staying at a ICHG property.

That 30 nights is the rumoured new level, I have yet to have a 30 night total in any year at an IC, most has been fifteen which earned status. Regardless, the point is Plat is not the top level in IHGs program, Plat RA is, and its hard to compare like for like between programs when one can be a plat in one program on the 5th day of the new qualifying year based on stays as opposed to status match/instant status granting etc.

ICH RA has close to the best gauranteed benefits of any of these programs. However - to receive those benifits gauranteed as well as earn RA, you need to be staying at an Intercontinental Hotel specifically.

So, if you stay for five weeks or more at Intercontinetal Hotels every year it's a great program.

None of that changes or invalidates my statement made in my 1125pm AEDST post last night.

Maybe we should take this discussion elswhere.

Why are we talking about IC RC ;)

Can't wait till SPG offers free breakky ....... I like free things :p

This will make it extremely worthwhile for hotels in Europe and 'resorts' where they charge an arm and a leg for breakky there!

SPG Plat already offers free brekky at Sheraton on the Park in Sydney in their club lounge.

Basically any Sheraton,Westin that has a lounge Plats will get access so get breakfast. My concern is that places such as the SGS BKK and Westin Tokyo which give plats complimentary access to their brekkie buffets dont cut back to a continental brekkie a la Hilton.
So far every St.Regis I have stayed at also gives plat a decent brekkie.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seems the continental breakfast (however this is defined) is only an optional benefit as one of the Platinum amenity - so you have to chose one.. if brekky not included in the rate (or no lounge brekky), I will chose this especially for a long stay as I don't think the stay bonus of 500 points would cover all the brekkys
