Works for me. w00t A|Club Gold - still useless, but better than a Classic and another to add to the collection of status metal.

I actually joined A|Club whilst I was over in Europe. I got some (measly) points for my stay at ibis Wembley and a new card when I returned home. It had the wrong surname (or rather misspelt) on it, and no I do not have messy handwriting and if the people at the ibis Wembley (who are barely good at English) are able to read my name correctly then why couldn't the gurus who processed my application form do similar. I think it's completely fair for me to apply again.

Better update your signature.

I’m considering signing up, but what use is it going to be to me? :p

I guess if you stay at an Accor property you might get a complimentary upgrade. And it's free metal...schmeh.

Not sure how many room types an ibis has, or whether there will be any welcome gifts or the like. Formula 1 will probably yield nought. Sofitel maybe - but they're rather pricy FWIW.

The main beef I have with A|Club is that their rewards doesn't seem all that great. Firstly, the earn rate is quite low, then to redeem stuff is pretty bad too - no reward nights, just vouchers. I guess if you use enough of their double points promos, you might get a square deal. Then again, maybe not.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have a booked night at Sofitel Melb next weekend. Will let you know about the 'guaranteed' room upgrade.

According to the T&Cs, regarding the room upgrade benefit:
  • It is not guaranteed (and it says this in the summary benefits on the A|Club website); i.e. the word 'guaranteed' does not appear
  • Room upgrades are dependent on availability
  • You must request the upgrade at check-in; the rules seem to imply that if you do not ask, you definitely will not receive. If necessary, you should say that as a A|Club Gold, you are entitled to ask. (Of course, if "there are no rooms for upgrades available", then not much you can do).

Most hotel programs require you to book through them though to receive points don’t they? *cough* Rydges *cough*

I’m getting into the habit of using HotelClub… so it seems points would be out the window, an upgrade might be given if I book at a pricier place. About the only useful thing could be late check-out, but even then they could probably say because I didn’t book with them I’m not entitled.

Thanks for the refresher. I have the Platinum membership that was/is included with the Westpac Krisflyer card. I received a call from customer service last week just checking for any special requirements and offering an upgrade to corner room for $45. I declined to pay and I'll take my chances on checkin.

Worked for me. I actually had a Gold membership with them, but never used it and so it reverted to Silver. Now I have gold again. :)

I think, at least...the website didn't mention anything about Gold level, despite me using that code and ticking the box.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Seeing as everyone else was getting in on it I thought, why not! Unfortunately I have to stay to get a new card. Not sure when that’ll happen :p

The e-mail confirmed gold. :)

Thanks for the gold card. One stay get upgrade to club floor, but without breakfast and no club access in Sofite Shanghai Jin Jiang Oriental Pudong.

Better than nothing.

Enjoyed a nice room on 48th floor of Sofitel, a little letter from manager on arrival and a fruit platter consisting of 1 x plum, 1 x apricot and 1 x nectarine.

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel, nice rooms and the service during my stay was excellent.

Thanks for the upgrade :p Worked for me! I've got a stay in 2 weeks at an airport ibis. So I doubt there is any upgrade available :D, a new card though, very nice.

does anyone know if you can use the benefits of the status without the card? (ie sign up now, stay next week before the card arrives)?

thanks

Thanks Johnbrown for the tip... Nearly end of Feb and it still works for instant Gold membership....

thanks for the tip off...

Yes it works. Just quote your number.

I found out about this deal mid-way through a stay last week. They are unsure if it can be backdated to include that stay. But used it at BNE Novotel on Sunday night fine and back at an ibis again now and worked fine.

I've actually booked three rooms this week for 4 nights each, so will be interesting if I am credited for 12 nights?
