Hey all,

This is my first post, as I just joined the forum. Please be gentle :)
You're all intimidatingly good at this SFSC (I'm trying to pick up the jargon) business, and I feel like such an amateur.
I'm going through a separation, and planning a solo trip for a month. Approximately the Dec15 - Jan 15.
I actually don't know where to go, but am considering Joao Pessoa in North East Brazil.
I figure having time, and an intended destination, will allow me a chance to collect some SC's, and I'd be squandering an opportunity to fly there direct if some meandering via other cities would help me accrue more SC's for my newly-zero balance. I enjoy being gold, and work trips seem to be worth about 400 SC per year, so I'll need more from elsewhere to top up.

Any ideas? I realise I am asking for some generosity from strangers, but I am confident I've paid it forward many times over and promise I'll continue to help subsequent strangers daily. :D

Thanks!
PMS

Also, should I be going with Emirates via Dubai or with Qantas via DFW, Chile, LAX, Honolulu, Argentina?
Not sure how the codeshare stuff works for SC's.

Welcome to the forum! :) Your questions are exactly what its here for (amongst other things).

The route you go I guess is a function of the price you want to pay and places you might want to visit en route.

For anyone going across the Pacific, I always recommend they look at One World's Circle Pacific Fare. Qantas doesn't advertise it so much, but you'll find it at Travel Agents (TAs) and on the 1W web site.

Multi-continent fares - oneworld

The fares vary a bit, both over time and how many continents / distance you do, but its often quite a bit cheaper than straight over and back across the Pacific, especially on QF. And within each mile package you can fit in quite a few stops, on One World airlines (ie including Lan Chile). So you might go from SYD/MEL (forget which) to Santiago on Lan Chile, then across to Brazil (I'm guessing that Lan Chile will do that), then up to USA on American, then back to Australia on Qantas.

there's an itinerary planner on 1W here: Plan & book online - oneworld (you don't have to do the book step of course).

If you don't want to do that type of thing, Air Pacific have good fares to LAX via Fiji - others have more experience with that one.

STatus Credits are earned on the distance of the flight (and class of cabin), independent of which 1W airline you go on: Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Status Credits.

Points earned are dependent on the airline (and class of cabin, and your current status) Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Flights.

Good luck!

Not sure how the codeshare stuff works for SC's.

If you want to earn SC on Emirates, it'll have to be a codeshare flight (with QF number).
