Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

Got an interesting offer from Coles/Flybuys this week. Spend $40 for 750 bonus points or $60 for 1000 points. It's been a while since they have tried tiered offers. I ended up using the $60 offer as I had a couple of birthday presents and cards to buy. I spent slightly over $60 and used a triple points coupon as well. I didn't have any docket deals. Nothing printed on today's receipt either. It's been a couple of weeks now since any docket deals have been generated for my account. Has anyone else noted a drop in the number of docket deals they have been receiving.

no offers for us (yet). what docket deals?? haven't seen any for ages

Same here, Fly Buys has gone very quiet.

Something may be about to happen.

I wonder if Q has been negotiating raising the cost of points for Westfarmers?

It was a 'sweet heart' deal originally (pre-Westfarmers takeover) that no other group got. Q got access to large customer base and had to pay for the privilege to Coles Myer group & Shell.

Yes I have definitely noticed a drop in docket deals, haven't received any other offers, only the coupons, which I might add run out soon.

I have had a few big offers from Liquourland/First Choice and a couple docket deals. Might be just a cyclical thing.

Is it now "Targeted Shopping Specials instead"?

As I went to delete the email from Fly Buys it occurred to me that Coles is much more closely watching exactly what is purchased with the Fly Buys card than in sending through offers.

Today's email declares that:

..... these in-store specials can SAVE YOU $24.04 at your local Coles.

The listed 'specials' in the rest of the email are all products that have been purchased since last November (two are infrequent purchases like 500g coffee in position 8 of 12).

The first listed special is probably our most frequent purchase by quantity and amount spent, and it looks as if they have been put in the order of greatest saving for normal quantity purchased (other half does like that particular brand of jelly snakes...). There may be a slight adjustment for length of time since last purchased as well.

Is this really targeted listing similar for anyone else? (Unlike the Target or K-Mart offers).

Half of the products in the emails are ones that I have purchased before from Coles and the other half are similar items but different brands to what I have purchased. Sometimes they are items which I only purchase once a year or once only purchases which were used as presents for other people.

I like the fact that they list products that are "in-house" specials rather than just catalogue specials. In my email today Vita Brits were listed as a half price special but this product isn't in the catalogue that starts tomorrow. As it happens, WW had this product on special a few weeks ago so I've already stocked up. Most of the products in the emails aren't useful and I usually don't get them until they go on a better special price than what is listed in the email. Occasionally there are a few gems which I wouldn't have found out about easily before my shopping trip to Coles so it's worth reading the emails just for these products.

I don't mind the fact that the emails are heavily targeted and show that Flybuys are tracking my spending. I know what the good special prices are so I'm not going to buy the products just because they are on special.

I also like the fact that they changed the timing of the emails. I used to get them on Friday afternoon after I'd already done my bulk Coles shopping. Now they come on Tuesday I can plan my "in house" specials shopping ahead of time.

Hmmm, of my top six, one was biscuits, one chips, one soft drink and other three were chocolate.

Triple points on my biggest shop for this week.

As EDR have given me an offer worth taking, I will pass on this one.

I was expecting a triple points offer from Flybuys but I got a bulk bonus point offer instead which was quite a surprise.

It was a tiered offer like last weeks.
$40 spend at Coles for 750 points or $50 spend at Coles for 1000 points. I also have a weekly coupon for 500 points. After complaining earlier this week that there weren't many docket deals around I was delighted today to get a docket deal for 1000 bonus points for a $50 spend. This will combine quite nicely with the other offers for my main shopping trip on Friday.

I just realised I made a typo in the above offer. The email offer for the 1000 points had a qualification spend of $60.

I ended up spending the $60 today and combined the 3 targeted offers. The total amount of points for the shop will be 2560. That's the equivalent of $12.80 in flybuys dollars. Usually I make sure that I spend the flybuys dollars on really useful groceries but that wasn't the case today. As it's school holidays in Victoria I spent at least $12 on impulse buys and things to keep the children happy. I guess I can afford this occasionally given the money I usually save by collecting points.

I just received this deal - not bad considering my coupon targets are normally $80 or $90 and the last time Coles did this my target was $90 per week. I would have preferred a $60 target as this would have required no effort but $70 should be OK.

I received the same offer but it's $180 x4 weeks for $50 or 10000 points.
No thanks! I had one big spend a few weeks ago buying food for a party and they are trying to test me.

Mine is spend $50 x 4 for $50 discount. Very achievable.

Yes, I got the $50 target as well and I should be able to make it.

Next week is the last week of the current coupon campaign. I wonder whether they are planning to hold off on the next lot of coupons until after this 4 week promotion is over.

10000 points is $50 in flybuys dollars. That's about $12.50 per week. The savings percentage works out around 25% discount for the $50 target which is a pretty good return. Once again though, flybuys have shown that they don't reward loyalty as Deka's post shows that they aren't offering more points for members with higher targets. I'm just glad I've got a reasonable target.

I did my week 1 shopping for the 4 week promotion and got a confirmation on my receipt to say that I had qualified for week 1 and only had 3 weeks to go.

I spent $50 and also used a 1000 point docket deal for spending $50, a double points docket deal and my week 12 triple points coupon. That's the last of the current coupons and I haven't heard anything about more coming.

I figure I earned a total of 3700 points which includes the pro rata points from the 4 week promotion. I should get 1200 of those points credited in the next few days which when added to my current balance will be enough to redeem another $10 of flybuys dollars.

When I got home from the shopping I found another flybuys email in my inbox. There was a 10x points offer for specific types of beef. The offer lasts a couple of weeks and can be used multiple times. I should be able to use it at least once before it expires.
