Im going to be 8 SC away from gold ...

If i buy $800 worth of coles gift cards now will this count and get me the sc i need?

I notice they seem to post about 5th of the month, my next flight is the 9th march.

Gift cards are excluded from earn by the T&C's.

if possible better option is to make a quick round trip with a getaway ticket which can then fetch atleast 14 SCs.

I had to purchase some JB Hi-Fi gift cards to maximise Amex point earn this month and they attracted SC, so it may only be the Coles ones that are excluded. I wouldn't be banking an upgrade in status on that though.

No.

Third party gift cards have in the past gained SC for me. Things, however, do frequently change.

I learned this the hard way. Always got SC for spend on restaurant gift cards at Coles, in December stocked up on the coles/myers gift cards and got zero SC. Ironically you earn SC on any gift cards not associated with the Coles brand.
