As disfunctional as organised charities can be, if only 5c out of $1 gets to where it's needed it's still better than nothing. Of course, you can choose to donate to where you think it's best, be it Australia, Africa, or anywhere else.

While our contributions may be small and insignificant in any scale, if my donation means 1 child can have a roof over his/her head, or have a better education, then it makes a difference to that child; it makes no difference to the overall problem, but it makes all the difference to that child.

Those that do this are better people that I am. I'll be the first to admit that I'm too selfish a person to this. I travel J for two annual business trips. In the two months I'm away I am on 26 flights and I cannot physically do it in Y, which is my my company puts me in J. If I did it in Y I would be useless for work on the 2nd half of the trips.

I donate to charity, my charity of choice is the cancer council.

If I did it in Y I would be useless for work on the 2nd half of the trips.

The problem for me is that travel class has little impact on my work performance, I'm pretty much useless either way, or indeed, if I don't travel at all.

I also donate to cancer charities, and apparently will be cleaning up large parts of QLD this year.
