When I tried self checking at virgin Melbourne T3, it refused my checking and suggested to see a service desk staff. After 35 minutes waiting in the queue, the staff told me the tickets were oversold.

As a result, I have been moved to a 2 hours later flight and 75 dollars credit. My question is: does virgin just give out a random figure? Or should it match your original fare price?

The flight is from melb to adel. My original flight was booked by AMEX on dj239, the replacement flight is dj243 today 21/5

Edit: my flight is 7:40pm and I am at terminal 3, if anyone saw this and have louge access, I will be delighted!

I am pretty sure Airlines can do what they want here, different story in LOTFAP!

What is lotfap? I tried google, but nothing useful. Thanks for your reply

Edit: nvm it is USA

Have seen a few virgin flights in this position recently due to downgrades from 737-800s to 737-700s.

I would personally be a lot happier with lounge access instead of the credit - did they offer it to you?

Virgin Australia policy is to provide a credit to the full value of your fare, where you have been denied boarding due to no seat avalable.

There was no offer for the lounge access. Also regarding the full fare credit, how come they only gave
me 75 dollars then. However the flight was a redemption from Amex platinum credit card, does that somehow lower my fare price? The normal fare is between 200-300

Certainly my time & inconvenience would far exceed the $75 'compensation"..

I think I will give virgin a ring tomorrow

It is just 75 credit can not buy me a ticket from melb to adel in the future at the similar timeframe

rang this morning, 75 is all i will get.

That is pretty cough service.

If this was a QF issue, this thread would be 7500+ views, 900+ replies (primarily QF bashing) and the VA Fanbois would be having a field day ;) . It would also highlight to the company reps that something had happened, and their attention would be had, and the catalyst for improvement ignited.

My suggestion to you is to contact the VA rep on twitter @virginaustralia and relay your story. VA and QF social media reps are brilliant and will go the extra mile to help out wherever possible. I personally feel making phone calls unless you are a high value customer does not achieve much and although your problem will not be solved as I take it this thread is very past tense, it will at least highlight a short coming.

As I posted on another thread. Be aware that the DJ social media team are very thin on the ground for the next two weeks as people are on leave.

this is the free flight through Amex right? i doubt they are going to be pursuaded to cough up more than was paid for the fare just because you want it?

I rang Amex today also, the melb to adel leg did cost them 75 dollars, therefore it is the credit I got. Although a bit disappointed, I think it is alright.

Would love to ring DJ and offer them $75 for a flight from ADL to MEL
