Going to be around London Mid September, and will have a few days spare, looking at doing some flight daytrips from London.

Anyone have any suggestions or experiences? Not looking at spending too much, booked a daytrip VS LHR-MAN pretty cheap, probably looking at something from Easyjet or Ryanair not from LHR!

Do you have to fly - there are some great day trips to be had by train and sometimes its easier to train than fly

I am with VPS, train trips can save time, even though the "travel time" may be longer. There is no issue getting to an airport, dealing with security and then possible flight delays. Whereas the train stations are generally always central in the UK and wider European cities and therefore take you straight to the action, not 45 mins + away.

Manchester is about 2-3hrs from what i recall via train and like flying there is a couple a different "carries" with varying costs, but the silent carriages are great in my experience and you generally get better leg room.

But for flying, it depends, parts of Europe can be reached including Paris & Amsterdam with a short flight. But these cities deserve more then a day unless its something specific you want to check out.

Anywhere in France or Germany is easily a day trip - flight times are akin to SYD-Mel and Bne-Mel.

Agree with others within UK I'd be taking train unless welded to flying.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The Eurostar will get you to Paris in 3 hours, including getting from central London to Airport, checkin, from Airport to central Paris, the time is about the same, views are better, your luggage is with you, no taxis/buses...and far less stressful overall.

Can also go on to Belgium etc if you like.

Local trains go to Liverpool, York, Manchester etc, maybe an overnight trip.

Fares can vary greatly depending on time of day/week...avoid peak hour if possible.

Cheap flights such as Ryanair etc often leave/arrive from other than main terminals, needing longer transport times/options just to get to the terminal/city.
Your 1 pound flight may end up costing a lot more than a 50 pound flight that uses a better airport.
