X1 means Qantas have made available one WHY seat for award redemption. X0 means there are no award seats.

If you're status is SG or higher look for T class (eg T2), this is a further bucket of WHY award seat available for higher status frequent flyers.

One simply query has shown me that almost all flights SYD-MEL on 29,30,31 December are showing T9 X9; so wide open for redemption.

Given red-e-deals are going for $89 on these dates, it is not surprising that the redemptions are available.

Try going MEL-SYD during that period; As I have posted elsewhere, there are 2 late NYE flights @$125, the other 120 or so are from $240 and NO reward redemptions available at all!

I guess Melbourne people would rather spend NYE in Sydney than Melbourne :) And no-one wants to go to Melbourne for NYE

I actually feel it's some type of marketing process; who knows what the aim is.

FWIW, At the same time as this there are plenty of D Class MEL-SYD fares, so conceptually, one could go MEL-SYD-MEL for $535 and glean 50 SC's and 2125 ff pts. (Or cost 6750 ff pts (nett) and $445 for 40'sc)

I seem to remember that they did the same thing last year with SYD-MEL fares, and additionally there were some cheapie MEL-SYD fares after new year.
